DIY Carb synch with the augarium tubing, ruler and motoroil

Made the home made synch tool with the augarium tubing , yard stick and oil.

they were a bit off, but adjusted accordingly

must say that while riding, the bike is noticiably closer to a state of ZEN now (don't see an emoticon that looks like a face in a state of zen otherwise it woudl be here)

easy tool to make, super cheap and super easy to do.

As to doing multi cyl engines with sep carbs, always hookup to lead carb, this is the carb that is directly contacting the Idle set screw. the idea is to get the other 3 carbs to match it. you can then bounce from carb 2 to 3 then to 4. always use small adjustments and always double back to check the adjustment holds or hasnt moved when adjusting other carbs.

Helpful TIP: get a good Boxfan and set it up infront of the engine to keep air moving across the engine so you dont fry it.

Tip#2  Use a lawnmower Fueltank so you can work with main tank off.its not as heavy,and easy to move.

Tip#3  after your first edjustment on a carb with engine off open the throttle all the way and let is slap closed a few times, this well let the springs (if equipted) "center up" (slang term)  i have two vacume gadges that i used for my GS but i think i will make one of these gravity manometers (syncing tools) for my Yamaha xj650 (once i redo the head) I guess i will need to get my 75mhz laptop out, take my supercheap cracker Jacks economy model digital camera and do some step by step stuff.

i never bothered with a valve inbetween the tubes, just straight shot

as soon as i connected and started oil slowly progessed up one side and i had to move quick to adjust otherwise a flick or two in either direction till they were at the same level and i was done.

Now that Klimber has the experience, we could have a Minneapolis carb-balancing party?  Even if Klimber just sat there and gave hints, it'd probably go smoother than if each of us sets everything up separately (tubing, gas tank, etc.).  I'd be happy to host and buy pizza or something! (then I get to meet more people, too).

ItSeemedLikeAGoodIdea also has an old GS; but maybe fastgrrrl and zarathustra have newer GS's, so don't need to worry about carb sync  yet?  Any other GStwinkies out there?
