Need an honest opinion

So I haven't worn a suit in years, but I've got an event in a couple days and I'm busting the ole' double-breasted two-piece out.  I got it in high school and was surprised to see that it still fit okay.  It's a little snug around the waist and arms, but it'll do for one day.  I've long since lost my black dress shoes.  All I've got are black patent leather (super glossy) and some brown/burgundy ones.  The suit is charcoal grey and I'm considering wearing the burgundy shoes with them, but am not sure about the combination.

Looking for opinions on this:

I kinda like the look and don't really want to buy new black dress shoes, or wear the really shinny ones.  What do you think?

It will work. If you can, put some cordovan polish on the shoes to bring out the cordovan shade, thus reducing the brown tones. Also, it would be real nice to have a belt that would be a match for the shoes. If all you have is a black belt, for instance, keep the jacket buttoned (which will not be a problem since it's a double-breasted suit.)

BTW, the suit looks classic and understated, so it should still look good years from now. Good choice when you bought it.

I've got a belt that matches already.  As far as clothes go, matching belt and shoes is the only thing that I really get picky about.  I'll probably run with it.  It's a lot more interesting looking than grey with black.  Thanks for the compliment on the suit.  I wanted something tried-and-true, rather than super contemporary, when I bought it.  I figured that I couldn't go wrong with plain charcoal.

Ya want something tried and true.......how 'bout my Levi jacket, circa summer of '67! I still have, it still fits, but I don't ride with it anymore.....now it's Alpinestars armour.

Buy quality, buy classic, it'll stand the test of time.

That's a nice jean jacket, though I don't think it's really the look I'll be going for that day.

Being an officer is hard work! Expected to be dressed to the 9's every time your around other soldiers. Spend most of my day's in a suit jumping through all these hoops... Did you also know i get graded on how i f%$king eat?! Do i use proper table manners etc etc...

hmmm..I quite like the suit's color :icon_mrgreen:
...Would you mind (if you can) to post a pic of your other shoes? the shiny black ones, I mean...
The charcoal grey/brown-burgundy combo doesn't convince me to the end. Just my humble, personal opinion.

I'd only like to see the other combo (gray suit over black shoes). :icon_mrgreen:

Here is the other combo.  Normally I'd wear black shoes with this suit, but these patent leather ones may be a little too shiney.  They usually go with a tuxedo that I own.

PS - Not wearing the tux to the event.  It's not that kinda party.

Ok, thanks for the pic! :thumb:
Well, when it comes to personal taste it's always difficult :)
...Me, I like the shiny black shoes best.
I'm trying to mentally figure out both combos, and I prefer gray-on-black (even if shiny) over gray-on-brown/burgundy.
I do hope I'm not confusing you more than necessary.
