Well i searched and looked in the Wiki to find the bulb size for the hi-beam indicator, and picked up a 194, and took the dash apart, and removed the burnt bulb, it is not the same size as the wiki said.

it is 2004 GS500F

any help is appreciated on the correct bulb size.

All the speedo, tach, and indicator lights are 3.4 watt except the high beam indicator which is only 1.7 watt on both my 97 and 02 GSs.  I use the 3.78 watt 194 auto bulb for all of them including the high beam indicator.  Just a little brighter but it works OK and never bothered me.

Interesting, a quick look at the Ron Ayers parts fiche shows 1.7 watt bulbs for all the speedo, tach, and indicator lights on the 04.  Actually they use 2 different part numbers of 1.7 watt bulbs for these.

Think I'll keep the 02 GS, they have the 194 bulbs everywhere.   :thumb:

That little one below the headlight is a different number from all the others and they don't show the watts.  My old 97 Owners Manual shows the bulb wattages in the back, you have your 04 OM?

That 74 bulb is 1.4 watt but it's a smaller bulb than the 194 and different base/socket?

Hi-beam indicator bulb

BULB (12V, 5W)

The #74 bulb should be smaller than the 194. but looks the same.

woops bulbs only changes for +04 not +01:

Speedo+ tach = #194
All indicators = #74
parking: #194LED- i say led because a few people have replaced the bulb with a 194 led but i am not sure if the actual stock bulb is a 194.

So does the 04 Owners Manual show all speedo, tach, and indicator bulbs are 1.7W like the parts fiche indicates?  Will the 194 bulb fit in the high beam indicator and the speedo sockets or in the light below the headlight socket?  The 74 base is much smaller on the spec sheets.

I have a note in my old OM that the OEM 3.4W bulbs were #158 and I used the same size and slightly higher watt 194 because they are available everywhere and close enough as others have done.

Never could find the 158 bulbs in the auto parts or Walmart stores.

the manual lists the 1.7 watt for all but i have taken every bulb out of my gauges and the stock gauge lights were 194 and the indicators were 74 i am not sure why they would indicate them as the same bulbs :dunno_white: I have fit a 194 led in the turn signal indicator with a little filing.

That is Exactly correct :)

found out the hard way, but wish i found it earlier, would have got one more day riding, I would upgrade to all LEDs but planning on selling the bike soon, so didn't see a point of it.

Thanx for the help everyone.

More info on the parking light can be found here:
http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=24994.40

and the stock size of the parking light is a W5W but you can use a #194 or T10

For 2004+ GS500 s

Speedo+ tach = #194 / T10 / W5W Wedge bulb
All idiot lights = #74 / T5 Wedge Bulb
parking: #194 / T10 / W5W Wedge bulb
