89 GS rebuild, halfway there!!!

So after much work, here is the bike after the first set of mods.

changes: new bars, new top plate, new levers, Vstrom hand guards, painted headlight bowl and ring, re-did electrical, removed most of rear fender and moved signals up level with brake light, moved license plate to chain guard, + oh yeah, rebuild engine to make the damn thing run!

Oh, and don't forget the purple bar ends!!!  Got dem suckers free from a neighbor who wasn't man enough to use them.  Reality-I'll be painting them ASAP!!!

could you post up some closer pictures of how the hell you put those signals up there?  I like that look.

I don't know, I can't tell if I like it or not yet.  I think you're going the touring/cold weather look, whereas I went the flat streetfighter look.  I'm on a different path, but props for workin on a GS in general.

The tail light case has room to drill holes in it near the bottom.  I drilled holes just big enough to fit the threads in from the signal stalks, but far enough from any sides to use the bolt.  Then I just ran the wires up higher with the tail light wires.  I drilled a smaller hole first to prevent it from cracking.  I post some more pics soon.  There is another rider that posted a pic of his bike with similar signal location.  It's a red bike in the member pics.  That is where I stole the idea.  I must say it really cleans up the rear of the bike and makes it look nice. 

By doing this you can cut the fender off wherever you want.  I cut about 25% of it off.  I think I'm going to get a hugger anyway so the whole fender will be gone in place of the hugger at some point.  You lose the underseat storage by doing this, but I have a plan to fix that in the end by fabing a piece out of aluminum to fit in there.  I think I can get more storage, but still keep it hidden.
