I knew it would happen someday... just didn't expect it to be today. I was headed off to work like any usual day. It was a bit cloudy outside but no sign of rain (which is a blessing and a curse in Arizona). I came to the intersection and say that there was no oncoming traffic. I checked behind me and saw noone following me. I slowed down to a safe cornering speed, proceeded to push to lean and accelerated through the turn. I came to my apex and must have caught my peg or lost traction somehow and watched as the bike skid in a lowside, sparks flying everywhere, all while rolling a couple times myself. Being a somewhat busy intersection, this gained attention and as I stood, 2 vehicles stopped to help. Some guys in a pickup truck were kind enough to help me stand my bike back up, to which I promptly rode home to assess the damage.

The GS: Turn signals, bar end, clutch lever, fairing, crankcase cover, shifter, peg, center stand, rear cowling all rashed pretty bad.

Me: Small (Dime sized) rash on my left ring finger and just below my kneecap. Slightly sprained wrist.

LESSON...

WEAR YOUR GEAR. I can give a big +1000 to the Alpinestars Black Label Leather Jacket. I was probably going about 25-30 when I went down (the bike was about 15 feet from where I STOOD UP, not counting skid distance). Fortunately, I was wearing my helmet, boots, gloves and leather jacket. Had I not been wearing gear, I would be minced meat on the left side. Instead, it rashed the left shoulder and forearm guard area.

Thanks GSTwins. I've been a lurker since I've had my GS... the reiteration of wearing gear helped prevent what could have been much worse.

Funny... I just went down about 15 minutes ago  (1:15 am).... First time on the down on the GS...   Ive got the bike setup so it cant take damage to anything except the muffler and case guards, so its no big worry.

Was out practicing in an unfinished neighborhood.   I can now say I know the give point on these old dry rotted bt35's... lol    Just tryin to destroy them before I go get some RX01's.   First thing tomorrow morn, Im orderin K&N, jets, and a 43 tooth rear sprocket.    Next weekend will be fun.   Probably gonna dump at least one more time next weekend on these tires, haha.

Good to hear you're ok too though! It's interesting. My friend that lives a mile from me went down on Friday on his SV... it's been a bad week for accidents. Stay safe out there everyone!
