i have the exact same ones on my bike. since i don't, ever, take passengers i just glued them up

I don't often take pillions either, but what if an emergency arises and your the only form of transport?

if it is an emerg call 911 :)  i guess they will have to go tippy toe on the swing arm
If they're just glued I would assume you could still pull them down if you had to, and they would just stay down till you glue them back up. :dunno_white:

I was thinking, use the split pins to make them usable, but use the glue to keep them up till you need them. Not that I would, but you could.

I just put a couple of washers under mine and it makes them real tight when pushed in the fold back position. They stay there on their own.  :thumb:

Hey Everyone, finally finished doing this mod, thought i would post my pics...

I did all four, (2 front and 2 passanger pegs)

A little comparison picture

Comparison on the bike

This shows where you have to grind to make the front work

This is how i fixed the back pegs.
-Instead of drilling a whole, i cut a bolt to fit inside and just welded each side to hold it solid.

Close up.

I know this method isn't for everyone, but i like it cause you dont have whole in it, so from the outside it looks cleaner.

Anyways, i hope this helps someone out, maybe make it a little clearer whats going on....

I really like this mod, they feel really good and hold my feet alot better, plus hey, they drop like 5 pounds off the bike (haha, i think its actually like 2 but if feels like a lot when your holding them in your hands) every little bit helps.

I didn't want to do any sort of welding or permanent mod for when touring the stock pegs are fantastic. They don't transfer as much vibration from the bike to your feet. But if your going to stick to your new pegs, this is a better way to go.

Fast Jetta 97

well i mean, its semi permanent. all i have to do to go back is grind that peg off and replace the stock ones.  The front ones can be traded back at any moment, the passangers take just that extra second to grind it out, but yes, its not a perfect set up.

Awesome Post Guys......Just ordered mine on Ebay...Have been driving myself crazy on how to get rid of those stock pegs!...Have researched this topic and this seems to be the best way....Also heard through word of mouth that you can also use **R6** pegs but have to drill the braket holes larger for them to fit.

If my bike wasn't in the garage right now I'd be asking if any of you wanted to send your old stock pegs my way, since my stock pegs are getting pretty worn down.  Personally I don't mind the "clunky but functional" look...it's why I'm riding a GS500 in the first place instead of a Ducati Monster.  That and I'm a poor grad student.

Fast Jetta 97

oh i feel ya, im a poor poor college student, but when i got a couple extra bucks, i say hey, why not spruce up the ol' gs... hahaha... if you got it, why not mod it....

OK, I know I'm bringing back a zombie post.  But is anyone that did this mod still around?  How do these pegs hold up in longevity?  Any probs a year later?  I'm about to buy a set of these for the front on my project bike and looking for any input.

Thanks,

Nick

I did this mod.. they seem to be pretty stong. I've only had the bike going for a day but I don't see why they wont last.
