Hey guys!
i've been a lurker here for a while and i'm just showing my face now to leech off of your combined knowledge of the gs500f's. So... i recently cut off my rear fender, using i think pbureau's method from the wiki page. At this point, how would i go about setting up the old rear turn signals so as to pass inspection? anyone have experience with this?

1   helps to know what state?
2   buy a new fender
3   remove the front signals.....most states have a rule...if they are on the bike they have to work if not....never mind
4   build a bracket to hold the t/s's
5   zip tie the old fender back on
6   DUCT TAPE.....nuff said

IF you didnt cut the whole thing off then you should be able to drill and relocate them right on the top of the fender :thumb:

just duct tape them on and when it passes rip them back off.  no point in drilling holes into a fender that you chopped down to look nice.

Personally, I wouldn't ride without signals.... Bikes are invisible to most drivers as is... With no signals you are limiting your chance of survival  :icon_mrgreen:  :thumb:

Get those suckers mounted and ride safe!  :thumb:

thanks for the reply so far guys

Well.. I'm currently in Massachusetts, will be here for at least half a decade. I actually do have turn signals on the thing, they're the lockhart phillips ones that clip onto the license plate (another member on here had the same thing... not sure where that picture is currently though). I don't think they're DOT-friendly though, because i recall reading something about how the rear signals need a separation of at least 9". I think these are 7-8" separation at most.

well if you are only off by an inch on either side then just make a bracket out of something for it to pass.  That should be less the a 20 min job....cut drill screw  done..  dont worry about paint.  Because you can just take them off when it passes abd put it back to normal.

Have you tried it as is yet? At least around here, most places are a bit lax with inspections. I'm quite certain you'll be able to find someone who'd pass it. Heck, most of them don't know all the rules, they're just looking for working lights. I don't think I've ever been through an inspection where they'd know or care about the locations.

I got the integrated taillight. Here in CA I don't think that motorcycles need inspections. Since I haven't gotten pulled over yet, I think that they're permissible.

Or if werase643 is right, then yeah, pull all the turn signals off your bike and use hand signals. Super ghetto and definitely less safe, but if it helps you pass the inspection, then I say do it.
