do you guys know any good bar ends for a 05 gs500f?

I should have mentioned, you want the heavy lead filled kind, not the crappy aluminum kind.

lead = vibration deadening
aluminum = worthless

if you really want a change, pour lead shot into the bars, then put on the bar ends. very little buzzing then. ;)

it's the same thing.

Actually, the newer bar ends are not the same as the older ones.  (More's the pity.)  The bar ends changed in '01, from ones that screw into welded-in, threaded inserts ... to ones that expand-to-tighten.  Or something like that.

That's why folks with newer bikes can't use my [Throttle Retainer] tip. :cry:

I disagree.  Yes, heavy bar-ends will reduce vibration - but that doesnt mean that the light aluminium ones are worthless.

I have small, light aluminium bar-ends on (I bought my GS with one of the stock ends missing), and I have absolutely no problems with vibration.  If you have a bike with a vibration issue, heavy ends will be a great fix - but for a lot of people (with smooth bikes) a light end will work perfectly fine.

Ive got aluminum bar ends with absolutely no problems, the vibrations are pretty much the same as the stock ones  :dunno_white:

any bar-end that uses a piece of rubber to hold it in place will work, the screw-in types will not.

This is me standing corrected. :) The three gs's I've seen the inside of the bars on were a 90, my 98 and a 04. They all had the welded in plug that was tapped. I suppose someone dropped (oh the horror ! no !) those bikes and replaced the bent bars at some point.

good points ! :thumb:

I have early 90's GSXR600 bar ends on my 89.

I just replaced my tachometer and speedo lights. You should take the old, burned ones out and take them to an auto parts store and compare them to what's on the shelf. If I recall correctly, the package of lights I bought and installed had the number 168 on it and the lights were designated as 'instrument/display' lights. There wasn't much else on the box to distinguish them from the other lights but the size of the lights themselves should clue you into which ones to buy. Btw, I bought mine at Autozone, about $2.99.
Taking them out and replacing them is a fairly simple procedure with the Haynes manual. Good luck.

194 bulbs 12v 1.7wat-available at any autopart store or you can spend a little money on some leds.

CndMax, those lights don't kill the battery fast right? and can u show me how to change them?

CndnMax

the bulbs or the leds? i cant imagine you would notice a difference in power consumption with either considering when the gauges are on so is the headlight and tailight which is what uses most of the power. Instalation is simple: remove the speedo cable, take off both bolts holding the cluster to the handlebars, then remove the bolts holding the black cover, then pull you the bulb socket and replace- you can also move the handle bars out of the way if you need more space but i managed fine without moving them :thumb:

You might be interested in the Gauge lights - help needed thread, especially since you asked about the Haynes manual.

But this diagram is more specific to your '05 than the one posted by pbureau69 in that thread.  (For other diagrams, check out my Parts Fiches page.)
