A little hesitation at 5-6k is fairly common on the GS.

Are your slides plugged?  Might have a look and check if you're not the original owner.  Plugging the slides will cause them to rise very quickly.  On my bike I had a lot of hesitation at 5k.  Adding a washer under the needles and unplugging the slides fixed that.
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Geep - Plugging 1 hole in the slide will slow it down. Plugging 1 and choking the other will slow it even more. Plug both and its adois to the slide. Its never going to rise ... you'd have to get a new slide ... dont laugh I have 1 slide that is that way in my garage. Luckily I broke the other ... :flipoff:

Bird'sGS - 5-6K hesitation - does it feel like it falls on its face when you snap open the throttle and recovers almost immediately and takes off, but behaves perfectly when you gradually open it ... then slide is comming up too fast. I'd train myself to open it slow.
K&N with no pipe has been a hard one for people, I have never tried it ... so you may have to figure it out a bit for yourself.

What jets you running BTW.

5-6K is not high rpm, its mid range rpm.

And jetting depends on throttle position, you are supposed to test it under load (5th and 6th gear) at that rpm and open the throttle while noting what throttle position it hesitates under, like 1/2 throttle to 5/8th throttle ... very easy, lift the needle with 1 washer. 5-6K, standing in your driveway ... or in 2nd gear or in 6th gear ... each will occour at a different throttle position, 5K in your driveway is 1/8th throttle or so, Pilot jet ... in 2nd gear its 1/4 throttle and there fore float level ... see how it can be confusing.

i used the jets and washer setting recommened in the rejetting tech note on the GS wbsite.  when i did that i broke them completely down cleaned them and reset the floats like is recommended. guess i just need tweek them a little more. hopefully adding an exhaust will help by opening it up more and letting it breath
