hey guys i was going for one of my first rides of the season the other day and i was just getting started and for some reason it started jerking like it was running out of gas but i looked down and there was gas in the tank  :dunno_white: then it just shut off i was able to get to the side of the road and then it wouldnt start back up but after a second of letting it sit it just started right back up like it was nothing  :cookoo: whats wrong?

Either you're out of gas or there's a problem with the vacuum petcock (fuel valve on the fram).

I would try the following:
1) Fill up the gas tank (an "empty" tank still has lots of fuel in it). If that works, great... problem solved!
2) If #1 doesn't work, run the bike on the PRI position to bypass the vacuum. If that works, the petcock will need to be replaced (common problem on GS; search for "fuel starvation")

Good luck! And keep us posted.  :thumb:

If your petcock has the metal knob then try this. http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=19363.0 There's a how to for the newer style with the plastic knob but I can't locate it.

ok guys i went back out and i didnt notice any problems it only has like 3000 miles on it so it shouldnt be having any kind of problems right? :dunno_white:

What year is the bike?

I recently bought a '95 with 3000 miles on it that had the same problem. Turns out the rubber inside the petcock had gotten old and I was having fuel starvation problems. A new petcock fixed that right up!

I'd try filling the gas tank first.  :thumb:

I bought an 89 a year ago with 4763 miles on it and it was the first problem I encountered.
