I  was riding aroud the neighborhood to get it warmed up  I came to a stop sign and engine died.  Tried starting  it but i just get clicking sound like what happens when your car starter is messed up.  Horn and lights seem to be at full strength. Battery is new  and fully charged bought it a few weeks ago.  Could anyone give me any suggestions.

Thanks
Keith

You didn't accidentally hit the kill switch on the right handlebar, did you?

TheGoodGuy

check:

* engine kill switch
* clutch interlock switch (left side of the bar, underside, its a cable)
* check side stand switch.

Check battery again..

if not u have something shorted out.

I betting on the failed sidestand switch. :thumb:

imn not recommending this, but only as a temporary fix, bypass the sidestand switch, and see if that works.

Thanks for the suggestions I think it could be the sidestand switch that is messed up. I will take a look at it during the day and see if I can replace it.

I thought the sidestand and thumb kill switches only shut-off the ignition (spark)?  Even with the kill switch off (killed), and you press the starter, I think it should at-least turn the motor over.  If you're just hearing a click, and no turn-over (and it's in neutral or clutch is pulled-in!), then I'd think there's a problem with the starter or motor: either the starter isn't getting enough juice, or else the motor isn't turning-over right.  Can you put the bike in a higher gear (at-least 2nd, 4th is easier) and walk it forward?

If the motor turns OK walking the bike, I'd look at electrical: are the contacts good at the posts?  Try a different battery (heck, even a car battery, using jumper cables).

Thanks everyone for their suggestions. Rema you hit the nail on the head  I tried to start in 2nd by going down the slope of my garage and it almost started. This time the engine  turned .So I took a look at the  battery and after fiddling with my battery contacts  it started up again.

Thanks
