OK, the Bonneville Salt Flats aren't THAT close, but they're not that far, either.  The official venue is about 2.5 hours from my place, but the flats go on and on, making for a fairly monotonous hour of I-80 riding.  (Not that I mind too much ... unless there's a headwind. )
