I sold my 2004 SV650S today.  she was a good ride, but it is time to move on.

I'm heading to the bike show in Baltimore this weekend to drool over all the new models, then up to PA next weekend to see if I can find a new ride at a good price :thumb:

I'm thinking about something on the sporty side, but with better touring characteristics than the SV (particularly highway acceleration, better suspension and a little more weight).  Maybe a ZZR600 or something like that.

Everywhere I read that SV has one of the best roll-on times:

40-60 mph in 3.27 sec
60-80 mph in 3.90 sec   for '99 sv650 naked

in comparison VFR800:

40-60 mph in 3.7 sec
60-80 mph in 4.1 sec  for '98 vfr800

So it will out accelerate VFR to some degree , comfort is another issue though.
I just love it

Also look at the BMW F800s

Hard to find statistics - id love it if someone else could but 0-60 in 3.5secs,  80 some Nm's of torque from an 85bhp twin. duel 4 piston calipers up front, abs is on nearly every second hand one as is the trip computer. Belt driven! huge plus, no maintenance at all, check the tension ever 6000 miles just to be safe they recommend. Choice of either the sporty S model or the ST touring model with different bars and full fairing with high screen.

Very good bike to throw in the mix.

At that price why not get an RC51?? or a Tiller??  Those are a bit on the sporty side :icon_twisted: and have f%$king awesome acceleration. 2.8 sec 0-60 for the RC51 :icon_twisted:

Kasumi

You all bang on about the RC51 i just can't get excited about it because it truely doesn't even exist over here, not that they just don't import them but you never see one or hear about them. Weird huh?

What about the Tiller??  I don't like em as much but they are similar.......

For what an RC51 will run you at a shop around here, your better off buying a Duc.   When you find one private party though you can usually snag a decent looking one for under 5k.

frankieG

i had a couple of tillers and they are the best bikes ever.  gawd i miss mine rc51's tend to run hot, which is not good, because of the funky radiators

I wouldn't mind getting a Tiller for my next bike.  I kinda miss the rumble of a twin, though if I don't get my valves done soon my Gix will be rumbling :icon_confused:

vfr man, you wont turn back

The torque of a V engine in 4 cylinder package great ergo's good performance and they can be real beasts when the variable valve timing kicks in when she really gets to breathing.

Pre 06 the power hit is a little more abrupt so keep that in mind if you test ride one.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

the sixth gen vfr with vtec gives this.

PERFORMANCE
Horsepower: 99.1 @ 10,750 rpm
Torque: 54.2 ft.-lb. @ 8750 rpm
Corrected 1/4-mile*: 11.26 sec. @ 119.50 mph
0-60 mph: 3.37 sec.
0-100 mph: 7.80 sec.
Top-gear roll-on, 60-80 mph: 5.07 sec.
Fuel mileage (low/high/average): 25/45/34

- in personal experiance, the top gear roll on on my 2002 60-80 mph is before vtec in sixth gear.

the ergos are great, im not telling you to not look at any other bike but definatley ride one... I was going to buy the sv but after the dealership let me ride both one after another I really leaned towards the vfr.  I havent heard much about it against the F800s, but the cost was too much at the time. all I have heard from the dealers (bmw) is that they need a valve check at 8k and the first one on the vfr is double that.
