air pressure

Am I doing this right? 

I check the tire pressure cold, just pushed the bike out the garage.  Read low: front 29, rear 31.

The book clymer says front 33, rear 36.

So I need 4 more psi in the front, 5 in the rear.

I went to the gas station to get free air.

I check the tires again, (after warmed up) and read 30 in the front, 33 I think in rear.

That means I need to fill the tires to: 34 front, 38 rear.  Right?

The bike was riding a little harder after the air up.  Just want to be sure I calculated this right so I dont overfill the tires and ride dangerously (too much air = less traction)

33 36 is right... 33 41 with passenger 

The manual also says that it should be measured in "cold" condition.

That's the way I do it, the front was 4 psi low and the rear was 5 psi low so just add the 4 psi and 5 psi to whatever you read when you get to the pump with the partially warmed tires.

i put a little more in the rear- i figure the way the bike is setup my weight would be a little more then what they think 1 person is and it leaves room for air to escape without going under.

You should be able to tell a 4-5 lb low difference (low anyway) in the front. It feels like a plow through alabama mud to me if mine gets 4-5 lb low.

The rear ? I'm not good enough to tell unless it's 10lb low.

Do I let them get that low anymore ? Nope, I check before each ride -now- !
