Thanks to advice I received from members here on this board, I've repaired a 1/8" hole in the bottom of my 1990 gas tank by soldering a small machine screw in the hole with acid core plumbing solder.  Let me know if anyone is interested in a picture; I can post a close up of the repair job.

I'm now ready to tackle cleaning, derusting and sealing the inside of the tank.  I was all ready to go with the POR-15 cycle tank repair kit when I came across this:

http://www.amazon.com/CYCLE-TANK-SEALER-KBS-Coatings/dp/B000IBDIX2/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&s=automotive&qid=1232560430&sr=8-2

I can't find any information on the KBS kit here at GStwin or elsewhere on the net.  Lots of posts about POR 15 and Kreem, but nothing on this.  Anyone have any thoughts on this product?

Unless someone tells me to stay the heck away from the KBS kit, I'm thinking of volutneering to be a guinea pig and report on my experience with this product.

Also to the forum moderators.  If I follow the Amazon link from the GStwin.com website and buy it from Amazon, does this forum get a kickback?

Looks like its POR15 in a fancy new name. Whatever.
Read instructions on these things. The simple line "put in the tank blah bla ... slosh it for 10 mins and drain it out" Yea lovely. Except most tanks cannot be drained. I dunno, POR15 works OK when you let it puddle up too so I wont complain too much, Kreem actually works better if you do a few thin layers so puddling isn't a problem as long as you keep sloshing every few mins till its all dried up and you start with a diluted mix.
There are subtle clues they write in instructions so you dont catch what the problems could be. POR15 actually cures in water. It cures faster when its humid. I like that. You may best be using POR15. But your call.
BTW there is other stuff, called redkote and what not that was also the next big thing.
Cool.

Red Kote.

Available at every NAPA I've ever been to!

:)

Be sure to thoroughly scrub the area where you soldered with Scotch Brite, soap, and water before painting.

Otherwise, the metal will rust under the paint due to the acid.  :technical:
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Thanks GeeP.  I wouldn't have thought to do that, but it makes total sense.
