Time to go wrecker hunting...I have refrained from doing this of late cos of the time commitment involved and the fact that the last few times I did it I got burned... 3 people have not paid me for stuff in the recent past...and they have not been seen here in a while too so if you care to respond privately to this post I'll hold off on posting names...else in 2 days I am posting names, nick names, cities they live in etc etc...and please dont email me at random.... If you posted here in the last 2 months its not you, If you dont live in Washington state or Arkansas or Puetro rico...its not you...and I have read a bunch of WA posts....its none of y'all.

Now to the matter at hand

Time to go wrecker hunting...Katana shocks are once again coming up a lot. Should I go looking for wreckers that will let me kick through their random piles around here and pull the parts for y'all...The cheapest I have got them for was $20 each. I believe that is a decent price for them and I'll target that. If anyone wants them Lemme know. Yes I know everyone wants long clevise, but if a short clevise is fine with you lemme know that too cos I believe it increases your chance of getting a good shock by like 2000% and I personally dont care about shaving the linkage a bit to fit it. BTW 89's will take anything. The later years need shaving.

I'm in.  I prefer a short clevise (naturally), but as long as it's compatible and in good shape, I don't mind shaving anything down.  Let me know!

How old do you look for?  I saw a '91 on Ebay last week and thought "I'm not replacing my '92 with a '91!"  I guess if it doesn't leak air, then maybe age is less-important, but how can you tell?

I've got a big wrecker nearby, but they've got a lot more old bikes (15+ years) than newer bikes.  Also, it's not real easy to tell what kind of bike you're looking at (thank-goodness that the GS has those distictive side pillars!), unless you climb up-close and read the VIN tags on each bike.  It could take me hours to find a late-model Kat.

I'd love a clean long clevise one if you pick up a few! I'm not as confident as you about cutting on suspension parts.

I was wondering if you guys could clarify for me something about the kat 600 shock.  I read through Pablo's site and must have missed it.
It said that short clevis shocks work if you have steel  suspension linkages and the long clevis works with the alloy or steel linkages.  Aside from looking under the bike is there any way to tell what I have?  Does anyone know when they changed the design?  

So I have a '90... I need a xxxxx clevis shock from a kat 600

On 89 and early 90 GS', any of the Kat shocks will work no grinding as will the GSXR ones. 90+ GS' you'll have to grind the steel linkage to get it to fit right.

I dunno how to tell I do know the later ones are painted black the 89-90 ones are Al so it might be just silver?

Hehe, I would put in a bid for a shock, but...

I think I'm going to do my own junkpile diving in a couple weeks.  I figure there has to be plenty of fools who wreck their Katanas and GSXR's on Long Island.  There's a yard that specializes in Japanese bikes, and only 15 mins away when traffic is good.

Heh, I just wish I was blessed with Srinath's haggling skills and his eye for a good part.
