The mirror thread sizes can vary by model and manufacturer (in some cases, the threads are even in the reverse direction).

The Wiki has some useful info on compatible mirrors: http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Upgrades/Mirrors

In particular, it states "The stock mirrors have a 10mm mounting hole on each side. Be careful of using mirrors from Yamaha and Ducati, which may use left hand threads."
