Everyone here has watched as I moaned an whined about carbs sucking with the dynojet kit installed (previous owner).

Today I finally had a chance to setup a stock needle/slide with proper jets for a V&H full + K&N Lunchbox filter, 150 main and 40 idler.

the taper on the dynojet needles is a good deal different, althought I didn't break out the mic to find out exactly what dynojet vs stock is.

took all of an hour to pull the old carbs, take the o-rings off the vacuum holes from the old carbs and transfer to the 'new' carbs as the 'new' carbs were missing them. quick change of the mains to 150 from 122, one #4 washer on the needles, done.

checked the float height on the bike, spot on.

splash some gas in the tank, fires up second hit. instant throttle response, choke works well, adjusted the idle after it was warm, then put tha gear on.

man, _instant_ throttle response. smooth alll the way to 9K. instant acceleration. it actually pulls strong, and progressively.

woot !

one more thank you to jared for shipping out a set of carbs QUICK.

thanks to everyone for putting up with my bitchin and moanin about the carbs sucking. after srinath pointed out I had a dynojet set of needels and slides, i knew I had to change things right.

so, think I'll make a clock out of the old needles as a reminder and eventually try to find out what the heck was wrong with the carbs other than the operator.

The down side to Dyno Jet is the drilling of the slides and they're a little more difficult to tune.If you are looking for a kit I have one that has never been open.PM me if you're interested in it.

sorry, I wasn't clear, the dynojet'd carbs are -out- and stock slides / needles are in with proper jetting. I'll likely stay away from anything dyno jet again. :)

with the 150 main, do you have to keep the fuel on prime in order to get constant flow?  I changed my mains to 140s to go with the K&N and unless I have it on prime, it stutters and does not run well with open throttle.

Sounds like the vacuum petcock is bad.It maybe time to convert it to nonvacuum operation or replace/rebuild it. http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=19363.0

The newer ones can be converted to,but I can't find a link to that. There is a cheap replacement. http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=36958.0

I have only been 65 or so @ WOT so far, so I don't know how long it will take to starve the bowls just yet. In the past with 137 or 143 mains (I really don't recall which it was) it would take 5 minutes or less, then switch to PRIME and it was fine. Today I played in traffic for a little bit, picked up some chik-filet and came home. It seems like a good setup so far, but there is a little popping on from higher speed deceleration, so I'll have to chop a couple more times to finger it out. I'm guessing I need to shim the needle once more, but am far from a guru status such as most are here.

+1 sounds right to me also. a poor mans fix is just running on PRIME at higher speeds. :)
