buddy havin problems with his '06

So my buddy brought his '06 gs500f up this weekend and he said it started fine no problem loading it up on his truck.  But when we went to take it down it just clicked like the battery was dead.  He didn't leave any lights on or anything and the battery is brand new.  After a jumpstart we got it started and he let it charge for awhile.  He turns his bike off, and tries to restart it 5 min. later and again with the clicking.  Any ideas as to what is draining his battery?  Thanks!

P.S.  Don't mean to sound so urgent but he's got a potential buyer comin to look at the bike in a couple hours

battery probably isnt dead, clean the terminals with a green scratch pad/brillo pad or sand paper. I blame it on contact. This same exact problem happened to me last week and thats what it was and mine is also an 06 with 1800ish miles.

check for corrosion on the battery leads. check the level of electrolite in the battery.

do the lights all work and it fire up  immediately with a jump ?

what does it SOUND like when you BUMP the starter switch with the jumper cables connected ?

There's hardly any corrosion.  When its hooked up to jumper cables, it starts perfectly.  We'll try the brillo pad.  Thanks.

 You say you let it charge for a while? how long? just sitting there idling or did you use a charger? For the bike to charge it up you would need a good 20 min or longer ride even then it may not charge it enough if it was fully drained.

My guess is he turned the key past off and had the parking light on   Buy a cheap battery tender from walmart and let it charge a good 12+ hrs   or take it on a long 1-2 hr ride.. make sure its a loop home so you dont get stuck somewhere if it doesnt charge up

my 05 batt. died over the summer from leaving the key and lights on.  I jumped it, let it run for 20 minutes, then took it on a 15 minute ride.  Came home turned it off and tired to start it again.. it would not turn over.  I hooked the batt. up to a charger over night, and haven't had problems since.  My guess is its not charging enough.
