problems with idle

I was riding my GS-500 yesterday for about 45 minutes and each time I came to a stop it seemed like my idle was too high, this happens every time the bike gets warm. It used to run smoothly, now  the idle goes up to 5 or 6,000 rpm's by itself, killing my bike and blowing a main fuse. When I replace the fuse the bike starts right up and then the same thing happens again. The idle is going up even when I don't give it throddle. I checked the choke and the throddle cable and there is nothing wrong. Seems like a coincidence that every time this happens and I replace the spark plugs it runs good for a couple weeks and then starts up again. Any suggestions as to what may be wrong with my bike and what can I do to fix it? Thanks for your help.

First, let the bike warm up to operating temperature.  Then adjust the idle screw, and set your idle around 1200RPM.  Now go for a short ride and see if that helps.  Adjust the idle as needed.



If adjusting the idle screw does not help at all, then you might have a vacuum leak.  Do a search for vacuum leak test and preform said test.

I agree with Jarrett.Also check your clutch, throttle cables and twist grip for binding.Have you lubed your cables lately or done any carb work?
