a lesson is to be learned here.   it is not safe or wise to listen to music while riding.  safe because of sirens and in the safe and wise area to be able to "listen" to your bike.  it tells you before bad things happen that something is wrong.  i hope it is a minor problem and that you get it fixed up quicky.  good luck

You could just have a battery that is completely dead and the alternator is also dead. AKA goats.
gggggggggggg ooooooooooooooooo aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa ttttttttttttttttttttt ssssssssssssssssssssss ...
Also refer to starwalts disease etc etc. Search for Goats syndrome. Posts going back 2-3 years may be useful. Goat actually lost his motor that way, but I didn't and maybe starwalt only partially lost it. Right Doug ??
Cool.

It sounds to me like the engine is seized.  To check the oil on the GS500 you DO NOT screw the dipstick in.  Rather, simply wipe it off and place it in the hole, then remove and check.  There may only be a few ounces of oil in the engine.

do u let the engine warm up real good before checking?  I checked it when it was just warmed up and put oil in my gs.  Then checked it later and it was a bit over full...?

My 2001 GS500 was totalled Nov 4 2008
Now own 2003 SV1000 and love it!

Drain the oil, if there is any to drain, and have a look at it.  Does it have silvery streaks or look like a metallic car paint?  If so, diagnosis confirmed, tear down the engine and overhaul.  If not, you may get by with just a spun bearing, but you'll still have to tear the engine down.  Be sure to de-glaze the cylinders and install new rings if the bores are still within spec.

The moral of the story is to always read I love YOU.  Some bikes require that you DO screw the dipstick in, others don't.   ;)

trust your mexican friend ,manual but odds are youre engine is toast, btw before it locked, did  it make any weird noises? or /and was it hot? ( nvm i just re-read your original post )

Same thing happened on my 81 CM400A Kerry, magnet came loose and locked up the engine 2 or 3 times.  It always happened as I was coming to a stop and centrifugal force quit holding it in place.  Could happen during the shift when rpm's dropped off in this case.  Finally found a used rotor with magnets for $70 and fixed it.  Honda only sold the new rotor/magnets and the stationary coil assy as a pair for about $400 back then, close to what I paid for that bike.
jack you had a hondamatic/
