I changed the speedo cable because it was jumpy when it reached 50-60mph, but now after that it's changed, it won't show speed above 50mph and would only stay at 50mph. Does anyone have any idea as to what the problem might be? Thanks in advance.

Maybe possibly the inside of the speedo maybe gummed up.If it's like most speedo the gears have lube that may have broken down over the years.

Hi Ben, it's me again - one problem after another. Well, the speedometer used to work with the old cable. It showed speed above 50mph, only very shaky. Now that I changed the cable, it's no longer jumpy, but will not show higher speeds and sticks at 50mph. I greased the speedo cable with WD40.

I had to remove the front tire to get to the screw that holds the cable in place because that screw was blocked by the front tire. So, the only thing I can think of is probably the assembly at the wheel gumming up or I didn't reinstall it properly. Any suggestions as to what to look for? I really don't think is the speedometer.

Ahhh.I see said the blind man. I would go back over the speedo gear on the wheel.Make sure the ends of the cable are seated all the way.It kind of sounds like the wheel end of the cable isn't seated all the way.The gear can spin and the cable end just set on top of it and barely spin.I always assemble the cable to the gear, off the bike. That way I can check and make sure the cable has engaged the gear drive. Then I install the speedo end making sure not to pull the cable back through the cable housing.
