The other night my sister's boyfriend's bike got stolen out of his parking garage. Here's a video from the local news station. http://www.whiotv.com/video/15557429/index.html

You know this stuff happens, but it's crazy actually when it actually happens to someone close. Really pisses me off watching this video.  :2guns:

If he could have chained it to the garage somehow that would have really helped.  They would have had to bring a pair of those huge cutters, which would have taken some time. It's a shame they didn't get a shot of the tag, that surveillance video is really good though, hopefully someone recognizes that truck.  :2guns:

That's a great idea. It's not my bike, it's my sister's boyfriend's. If it were mine I'd be out there going vigilante on someone's ass.  :2guns: :icon_twisted:

Wow, the balls people have just blow my mind.  I see vids over and over and it still surprises me every time.  I like the lock idea, but it seems like such a burden to have to carry it around on a bike, and on top of that to have to find something to park to that isn't going to get me a ticket that will allow me to chain it up.  In medford, I was at a mall that had 4 parkingspaces with a motorcycle parking only sign above it.  It had four yellow steel poles that had loops to lock up a bike and the poles were dead middle of the parking spots not allowing cars to even be able to park there so some a$$hat doesn't take up all the bike parking with his excursion.
GS500E with a bunch of cool stuff!

that sucks. i don't really think any type of security device or lock would have helped much if they wanted the bike bad enough. it sucks that there are people like that. but if they want it bad enough there isn't a lot you can do to stop them. that's why we got insurance.  i suppose you could alawys get a mean dog and chain him to your bike.  seriously though, hope they catch those dudes.  :2guns:

That totally is a bummer, same thing happened to my cousin he had just bought a Harley, two months later he went out to his garage and it was gone. It is pretty common out here in California especially where I live in Ventura. Pretty much sucks to have people like that running around.
Move swiftly but safely

Thieving bastards  :2guns:
Keep an eye out on ebay/craigslist for the parts to show up. Maybe get PD involved in an undercover search. I believe someone in CA tried that, and almost caught the guy. He got spooked at the last minute and got away by a nose hair.
It's a shame people get away with this. Anyone ever hear in the news when the thief gets caught?

Hmm video no worky for me from 3 computers oh well I will try it tonight at home.

There really is no deterrent to the determined thief that's looking for something specific.

You'd ba amazed how quick even a bolted and chained down bike can be cut free and tossed in the back of a van or truck by 3 guy's.

I do the best I can by not publicizing where I live. the bike is in a garage so out of sight out of mind unless they know it's there.

My neighbors all know it's there and that scares me because I have one set that I don't trust the crowd that hangs out around their house. But I have 4 other neigbors that call the cops if a car that doesn't belong in the neighborhood drives around the vlock more than once.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

I saw a video on youtube not too long ago, two people used some huge lock cutters and cut through pretty much every type of bike chain lock in under a minute each.

Found it   http://youtube.com/watch?v=VC3hFr8p2ck&feature=related

It would seem like the police could come up with some leads pretty easily.  How many brown 85 Chevy pickups are still registered I wonder?  The video is better than many I've seen before, so hopefully he catches a break.  That's exactly why I waited until I had a garage to buy a bike, and my Camaro, and a good stereo system, etc.
Something is wrong with my twin...all of a sudden it's V shaped!  Wait, no, now it's a triple!  ...and I IZ NOT a postwhore!

It's Dayton, Ohio...I'd imagine quite a few.  Yeah the video is really high quality, and he parked the bike there in case something like this ever did happen.  I would think someone should spot that truck pretty easily, I guess they ran that video on the news all day. I can only hope for the best, I never even got a chance to ride with my future brother in law...in my sister saw that she would get so mad.  :icon_mrgreen:

those guys work construction, no doubt. they drove old amer-iron, and lifted with their legs, not backs. ;)

that bike will be pieces in 10 different shops, and guys will be bragging about the 'awesome deal' on the 'like new tires / wheels' they just got off their buddy.

hope the assholes that stole the bike catch a nice size 12 to the teeth soon, and some quiet time with shawnteequa in a cell.

Update on the situation:

The police found the truck (which had been recently painted... hmmm  :icon_confused:) I guess all that exposure on the news scared 'em. Anyway there was a house full of stolen bikes, but his wasn't there. They took one guy into custody, not sure about the other. The insurance company ended up just cutting him a check for $4800, so now he gets to go bike shopping!

well at least there is some closure to the case eh? probably not as you'd have wanted it but i suppose the end result here is better than having never found the thieves at all.  :dunno_white:
