brake light modulator - should i keep it?

i just installed a signal dynamics brake light modulator. when you hit hte brakes it flashes your brake light 3 times, keeps it on for 3.5 seconds, then flashes it 3 times again. since i usually try to flash my brake lights i like the idea of having something do it for you. however, while i was fooling around with it, i found that if i tap my brake leverabout half a second before i hold it down, i can delay the brake light coming on for about half a second. so now i don't know whether i should keep it or not...

Here's my thoughts on the modulator because I was considering one also.  I like to flash my brake light when I slow just to be a little safer.  However, I know in an emergency situation and I have to really get on the brake, I won't be able to give a courtesy flash.  I also know that my bike will stop much faster than many cars so who know's if the modulator would work in that situation.  I think in everyday situations I'll forget to tap the light even though its habit and the modulator will help with that.  

I haven't bought one yet because as you can tell, I'm still a bit unsure if it will truly do any good.  There is one I've seen on the net that is actual extra LED's that mount on your license plate bracket.  It has an accelerometer and turns them on when it detects and hard brake.  Thats another one that I've thought about.  I wish I still had the link to show you but its been a while since I saw it and I don't really remember the company

i really like the idea of one, especially the signal dynamics one since it'll keep flashing every 3.5 seconds. i guy i know was rear ended at a stop light and i think something like this might have prevented that.

however, i'm worried about how easy it is to cause the situation where the brake light delays coming on for a half second. i'm afraid that might cause more unsafe situations then the unit prevents.
