Well i was thinking about maybe upgrading (if you would call it that?) to something bigger, and i like naked sports bikes so... I was wondering if anyone has rode a ZR-7 and wondering what they thought of it.? I reeely like my purple gs and dont know if i could get rid of it too easy, but im a bigger guy and the 25ish extra horsepower would feel nice running 80 down the interstate..

I havn't ridden one, but they are about 100 pounds heavier than an SV650.
If you're looking for a decent naked it is REALLY hard to beat the sv in price/performance.  the other companies have tried and failed so far.

The zr-7 is 80 lbs heavier and a couple horsepower short in claiming to the SV650.  Honestly, I don't think it would handle you much better than the GS at highway speed.
If for some reason you don't like the SV, I would look at the Honda 599 and it's bigger brother the 919. As I recall the 599 is running a slightly milder tuned F3 engine so you're looking at low 80's actually on the wheel and the 919 should put down mid 90's at the wheel.  The only problem with those options is the suspensiion is incredibly soft and non-adjustable.

Just get an SV.

everyone i know who rides a 919 loves it.  used ones can be had for the same price as used SV's (4-5k) at least around here.

Yeah, aside from the lame suspension I've never heard a bad word about them.  Good power and ergonomics.  i was looking at buying one a while back that was pretty much mint with 15k on it for 4700.

599's/919's are too expensive.  You can probably find old 599's for the same price as a newer SV, but even then you're be lucky.

I wouldn't get either...I'd get a 1000S.

I saw an 03 599 for 3k with 20k miles about a month ago.  They usually aren't priced all that bad it's just not that common to see em for sale, at least here.

But yeah 1000DS would do the job quite nicely.

ZR-7...beeeeautiful naked bike. :thumb:
There's one for sale for cheeeep in my town, one of the reasons why I'm not taking it home with me is because they offered me ridiculous €€€ for my GS. Seems like no one wants it back (even though it's well kept). :dunno_white: :icon_rolleyes: (Reason #2 is that I'm changing job place soon = less time for riding)
yes, the SV 650 (the other bike I'd buy :icon_mrgreen:) is lighter and sportier, the ZR-7 is heavier but more comfortable, I read.

I'd say SV for "sporty" riding/tooling around, ZR-7 for cruising/touring. Both nice, reliable rides. :thumb:

Good luck with the choice.

Get an SV.  You'll fall in love with it, just as I did, so now I've got two :)

does the sv have a more cramped riding position than the gs?  I can handle the gs position but any tighter would be a bit too much.. O0

The "S" version will have a slightly more cramped seating position due to the lower clipon handlebars and the higher footpegs, but the standard SV650 and SV1000(2003) will have a a very similar seating position as the GS500 with the regular handlebars and lower footpegs.
