Hi Guys,

So its spring time and I am done with my valve adjustments. There is an incredible improvement in low RPM response, which makes me want to go for another loooooooooong trip. Me an my friend are planning to explore Arizona. Any suggestions on

0. Must do roads. We are petty flexible, and if it does not increase the mileage, we can change our route.
1. Must see/visit places on the way (Hint: I love nature)
2. Must eat hole in the wall/family owned restaurants? (Hint: Vegetarian/local specialty/fresh produce)
3. If anybody wants to join us for a short ride along the way, you are welcome. If you are on our route and want to just meet up for a cup of coffee too, pm me.

The route as of now -  Here

coooooooooooooool ! have you seen the windmills ? i'm going to have to find exactly where we were in Arizona, or California, but there were hills covered in windmills. Awesome.

I'll find the exact location and see if it's close to your route. Looks like a blast !

the road to the great crater:

petrified dog:

mirror:

big sky:

two wheelers & windmills:

HOT: (what you can't see in this picture is all the bleached bones from dozens of animals that died)

HOTTER: (had to stop and let the car cool down on this winding road)

I would take a short detour from I40 in Flagstaff and go north up to the northern rim of the grand canyon!!! In the northern rim everything is brilliant in color and up close unlike a lot of what you see in the sothern rim. When I transferred in the navy from San Diego to Connecticut this is the rout that I took but I came down from Vages and came down through Flagstaf and then picked up I40 from there. It was an awsume adventure that I plan on retracing in the up comming years.  -- JIM :)

Hi there,
Here's my suggestion, garnered on my visit to AZ a few years ago...
I was in Phoenix and a dear friend lived in Yuma, so we decided to meet for dinner in the middle.
Here's the place her husband recommended... Stovall's Space Age Lodge.
http://www.roadsideamerica.com/tips/getAttraction.php?tip_AttractionNo=%3D76
It's in the middle of nowhere in Gila Bend, AZ.
The food is good, the decor is fun, and the ambiance is legendary.
Have a great trip!
The surrounding desert is gorgeous.
Best wishes,
Todd

this lil hole in the ground http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_M2X99D_RLY

we were out there, the gov't has really screwed it up now. they built a gift shop, disallowed dogs, photography, and charge $12 per person to see it, and fenced the whole thing in.

if i lived out there i'd drive a 4x4 through the fence and do doughnuts in it just to piss off the man :)

In the April 2008 issue of Road Runner: Motorcycle Touring and Travel (I bought it at a Borders bookstore), there is a great article with pictures of a tour straddling the Arizona-New Mexico border.  Looks like a beautiful area.

Their trip loop was Gallup, NM up to Tsaile, AZ and over to Flagstaff, then meandered south to Payson, AZ, then east to Eagar, AZ, south to Clifton, AZ and back up to Gallup.  Pretty stuff.

Thanks guys, I'll keep the suggestions in mind.

We dont want to visit Grand Canyon in this trip, cus it deserves a full trip in itself . The Space Lodge looks like a unique place in the middle of nowhere. The great crater is on my list of to see, the entry fee does put me off too! Lets see if I can just zip by them on GS and have a nice ride of the crater ;)
