Finally some real progress. I bumped my main jets from 125 to 127.5 today and noticed a definate increase in performance.  :)  :)  :)  I had also recently changed my fuel hoses from 1/4' to 5/16" and could feel a difference with that change too.

You may recall I was complaining about poor performance (even after rejetting) and attributing it to low compression. BTW, I rechecked the compression with the engine really hot and they are about 145/145, so they're low but within spec.

Anyway I was wondering what my next step should be. Here is my '93 GS500 setup:  40 pilot jets, 127.5 main jets, 1-#4 washer on needle, fuel mixture screw 3 turns out, UNI foam air filter in stock air box and Cobra slip-on exhaust. Float level is spot-on using the tube method.

Should I try the next size bigger main jets, 130s? I've not seen any references to anybody with the older GS's running with that size. Or should I just try adding another #4 washer first, since its easier?

I'm sort of following the Factory Carb Tuning instructions, which say to dial in the main jet before dealing with the needle, but if someone knows I'm not likely to get anything more out of 130 mains, that will save some time and a few $$$.

Finally I want to thank Srinath. He mentioned the 1/4" fuel hoses could be a problem and I also found an old thread where he recommended the 127.5 mains with the Cobra slip-on.

hey man, im workin on making my 03 gs500e into a streetfighter. I want to use 2 pod air filters to get a little more power and make more room under the tank/seat area. I was wondering if you knew what jets would be best if i wanna run those pod filters. thanks for any info you have.
