Well new job and all, costing me alot in fuel and boring commutes in the car - i have a lovely route to work, a nice mix of super fast duel carridgeway, twisty backroads and A roads.

I get to park airside in as you can imagine at an airport a highly secure area underneath the tower. Summers coming up...

Im thinking time to swap the ZXR for something much newer - a bit faster a bit bigger that i can carry a pillion on and commute to work on.

So i thought of an SV1000s it would only cost me around £1500 to upgrade after selling my zxr for what i hope to be 1300 lowest i hope or above. I got one quote of £650 full comp insurance which is very cheap i think for an 18 year old.

So im interested whos got one/ridden one....

Do you have any comments on them? I have of course looked at reviews online but i value your guys (and gals) opinions.

Cheers

it looks heavy. ;)

i'm still considering a sv650 as 'too much bike' for me though.

they are great to ride. i would love to get one but can not afford it right now. yes they are a bigger bike but more agile than one would think. at idle it vibrates but it is a v-twin. i myself would get 1000 because of the more bang for your buck. just remember if you do go with a 1000 there is one word to remember. RESPECT! good luck and be safe. :thumb:

Ya know there's a 1200cc twin pumping almost 200hp out there.................probably a little past what you wanted to spend though............

In all seriousness, the SV looks like a fun bike, good power/torque, should be pretty agile. You could look at a Tiller too.  Probably not as comfortable but it's a liter twin.  They seem to pop up pretty cheap over here don't know about your side of the pond.

Tiller - TL1000?

I have never seen one readily available im sure they are, but i think its the same as we don't get your RC51 we ONLY get the CBR models.

I could have a whole range of bikes i know, if i was going for supersport i would get an R6 or  Gixxer 6-750 but i want to be able to ride it in resonable comfort plus i love torque and i like the idea of cruising at 80-90 at only 6k instead of up in the 10k range on my zxr. I think the SV would be a more usuable bike, more torque which is in fairness beter in real world situations plus better for 2up.

Keep em' coming

mmm, sv1 vs. tlr... that would be a fun all day comparison. you could likely find a magazine pointing out the strongs/weaknesses too. :)

i'd like to try either at some point. from what i've read the sv would be better for -me-, a tallish dude with ham-fisted throttle control. :)

You could always look for a used Duc SS or ST.  They both will deliver nice torque without a full on sport bike lean while still handling superbly.

I was just admiring this ss the other day...

I might be a little biased, but on the other hand, Duc's are sexy as hell.   The only problem with the 800 is they don't make DP cams for it.

Most reviews say that, while not a bad bike by any means, the SV1000 isn't as immediately impressive as the 650. Not bad, but kind of a warmed-over idea. Some 03's had a problem with (main?) bearing tolerances, causing a non-fatal but perceptible knock. Gas mileage is pretty uninspiring in the low 30's.

That said, I think the half-faired is a beautiful bike. If somebody offered me an 04 in black with high-level shorty cans in trade for my Daytona, I feel no shame in saying I'd be tempted.

Insurance is freakin' cheap, too. Half what the Daytona costs, probably less than half of what a GSXR/R1/RR/ZX would cost.

I've got both a 650 and a 1000, and I wouldn't trade my 1000 for anything.  It's the perfect street bike.  That's not to mean there aren't any other bikes out there that I would love to have, I just don't ever want to give up my 1000.  The power delivery is perfect for the street, and there is enough power there to let the hooligan part in you have alot of fun.  However, it is a BUDGET sportbike.  I suggest upgrading the front brake pads to EBC HH pads and having the (too soft)stock forks worked on, at least get some heavier oil and stiffer springs.  The One Thousand is heavier than the 650, but for a street bike it makes little to no difference.  Now I've got a 2-into-1 titanium exhuast conversion on mine that cut about 18lbs off the bike, because I wanted to lighten the load a bit for track days.

It's an excellent bargain for the performance.  You may also want to look at the Z1000; I've heard good things from the people that ride those.
