sure, provided it starts and rides decent. the tires, chain, etc are always negotiating points.

try to start? what does that mean? starting does not equal running in gear under load and for distance 400

cosmetics plus rust equals? 300

tank probably needs at least a Kreem and maybe replacement if really rusty, why did he prime it what does it cover 50-300

etc. budget another 500 just cause it is old

I got my low-mileage, almost-mint '98 GS for ~$900, which I consider a cracking bargain, but with every other vehicle I've bought I've always regretted not spending a bit more for a newer model. You get a better bike/car, and you don't end up shelling out as much for it. I bought a '98 MGF convertible in January for a very low price of ~$3,000. I've since spent ~$2,000 on repairs and improvements!

I have a 93 with 6000 miles on it. If you have the option of this take it to a mechanic before you buy it. Find what what condition it truly is in. A lot of our bikes get left outside in the elements but dont show the damage that quickly.

We'd hate for your first impression of a GS to be one thats falling apart or becomes a money pit

I gave that for an 89 in excellent condition with extras.I would try to negotiate a lower price.Closer to $700 would be about max unless he gets it running and rideable.

I would consider it if I had a minty no title parts bike for cheap and some motorcycle mechanic skills. Else, move to the next deal. Read between the lines of the ad. The seller is trying to be forthcoming without turning off every buyer. In general, a 15 year old bike needs to be really, really nice to be anything but a money pit.

spring is usually a sellers market for bikes, make sure you have cash in hand when negotiating.  people see the green and know u are serious

I bought this bike with the intent to restore about 4 years ago but never really messed with it. I just tried to start it today and the motor and transmission work good. The bike has some rust on it and needs to be cleaned up and after looking at it needs new fork seals. The guy I bought it from did all the work so I have no paper work on it. The oil hasnt been changed in about a year or so, but the bike was barely ever ridden in that time. It is a good project bike, that is also streetable just as it is.
