Hello, this is My 1st post here.

I bought a 07 GS500 and I'm having some issues with it. The 1st one was that the battery kept dying, i charged it up and it seems to be ok now, however the other issue remains there.
The bike seems to talk a long while to warm up. Will need to have the choke wide open for 5mins or so before i can turn it down. when i do turn it down, sound like it idling poorly, and when i goto rev it up it hesitates and might not go up at all. When i try to hold the RPMs at around 2000 you can hear the bike miss firing. The bike only has 70 miles on it, any ideas? i think i  might of fouled plugs for having choke open too long?

Thanks, and i look froward to posting here more.

new bike=warranty?
Talk to the dealer. Anything wrong, they should have to fix

ditto. be persistent with the dealer. you paid a premium for a new bike, and it should run like one.  :thumb:

Oh yea ... New Bike = pos. We rejet everything. New = worst. The saving factor in the 89-00 bikes was ... floats will wear and go high, richening the bike a bit (till they overflowed with time) and it worked OK. Not at all uncommon to have a bike run like sheite in the first year, but the constant bouncing the riding will do makes the floats go higher and higher ... till it runs well being richer than stock. The of course you have the inevitable overflowing into the air box issue.
I set floats to about 1 mm lower than stock, but jet it up 1 on mains, 1 on pilots and 1 washer under needle. That lets the bike run well for a good few years. Then if your floats wear and go high, your perfoemance suffers, you can open the float bowl and reset them. That is one reason I put allen bolts on float bowl.
Cool.

Has the exhaust or air filter been changed/upgraded?How many miles?May need a new air filter.Have you checked the vacuum lines to the carbs? They could have viberated loose.

He said it only has 70 miles on it.

Does it only act like this when its cold or does it do this all the time?

I bought my 2006 brand new, and yes before I rejetted it it took a long time to warm up and while it was cold it would missfire... But once it was warm it ran fine.

I have 600 miles on my bike and it runs way smother now (it vibrated a lot for the first 100 miles or so, plus what's described above).

You for sure want to rejet. I also recommend a new air filter. HUGE difference, plus running motors lean is known to decrease their life. Check out the Wiki for rejetting info.

Did you get any sort of warranty on the bike? Take the above advice and go bug the dealer.

Bike ran fine when i got it last May, it has been sitting a lot, i got my Licenses around October, and it has been running poorly ever since then. It has a 1 year limited warranty from Suzuki, however only issue is getting to the dealership. Its about 20miles or so from my house, and don't know it i trust the bike. Last time i took it out it died going around a turn at like 3mph and bike feel over  my leg too the impact rather then the bike.  So you guys don't think i might of fouled the plugs or anything? i had the choke on for a long time (10-20mins) quite a few times when i 1st got the bike, before i knew that was damaging to the plugs. What filter do you all recommend? just a K&N or was there something better? Thanks for the good advice.

Hi,
I had the same problem with my bike ( The battery part) it's an '06 and I bought it brand new, The battery has been replaced atleast 6 times by the dealership. The said it was the stator so they replaced that but it didn't help. What I do is put it on a battery tender at night and let it charge as needed, I've been doing that for about 6 months now and haven't had a problem since.

You do realize that the generator/alternator doesn't start charging until the engine reaches around 3500 rpm's.

I went to the dealer yesterday, they said my Carb was gummed up from the bike sitting so long, and that it would be 500$ to fix it, so i quickly left. I drove the bike there, and when i got there (about 25 miles) it seemed like it was running a lot better. Still has some issues idling when its cold, but when its warm seems to do fine. Are there any additives to add to the fuel that might help a little bit. Thanks.

The buddha will make it run better for 1/10 of dealer costs.
Take off carbs and send it to the Buddha.

Wow, $500 is really steep for a carb cleaning.

But yeah, I've had the same problems with my '05. During startup, it will be a bit rough, and it may backfire if you rev it with the choke part-open. From what I hear, and my own experiences, this is actually normal.

Also, ride your bike more! Running it is actually better for it than letting it sit for months at a time. Don't rev it up too high since it's still in the initial break-in period (first 600 miles I think?).

Add some seafoam (http://www.seafoamsales.com/motorTuneUp.htm) in your gas. It probably won't get all the gunk out of the carbs, but it definitely helps smooth out rough idle and clean the fuel system out.

Yes. Buddha is very good. He has done my carbs the last three years. Highly recommended.  :thumb:

Thanks for saying that seamax, even though I sent these leaking this time ...
Also they dont need to be done every year ... seamax has located a secret pile of parts and is getting the carbs from that pile rejetted ... not the same carb 3 times  :thumb: .
