OT: 2 stroke bikes and gas and oil stuff

I don't know, exscuse me for not nowing anything about 2 stroke bikes but

do i mix the gas and oil or fill the tank with gas and let the oil in the resevoir do the mixing,


i'm just clueless as to this process!?

Depends on the specifications of the engine.  Some engines require Premix (mixing b4 you put it into the tank) or where you have an Oil resivoir which mixes it for you.  Look in the owners manual.

ouwwwch, no manual  pullled this relic out of the back of a pole-shed, it ran two years ago but the guy broke the chain and never bothered to fix it,

If it is a 2-stroke and it has an oil reservoir, it will mix for you. Fill the reservoir with injection type 2-stroke oil.

Oil injectors can be disabled and you can run premix. I don't know specifically how to disable yours, but they typically have a pump that is driven by the crank and robs hp going to the rear wheel...if that means anything to you.

As stated above in other post there are two types of systems used by two-stokes.  Most dirt bikes will require you to premix the fuel usually to a 32 to 1 ratio or about 4 oz of two-stroke oil per gallon of fuel.

Most street bikes such as the Yamaha RD250, RD350, RD400, RZ350, RZ500, YSR50 used an injection system where you did not have to worry about mixing your fuel and oil.  Most Honda, Suzuki and other two-stoke steet bikes use the injection system.

If you have a bike with an injection system and it has not been run in a long time you should clean the system out and replace any oil lines before you try and run the bike.  Also you will want to bleed the oil line system so there is no air in the lines that will keep the oil from making it to the motor.

Also if you are using the injection system you will want to add about 1 oz of two-stroke oil per gallon of gas for the first tank full.

If you use premix fuel remember that more oil does not mean better.  If you add to much oil to the fuel it will cause the motor to run lean and you could cook the motor.  Most bikes run around a 30-to-1 or 32-to-1 ratio of fuel to oil ratio.

tkm you said it all man-- now i don't have to write out a big long post.

I hav e 67 Ycs1 the precursor to the Rd's and it also had the autolube system.  One problem with it is that the bike doesn't like to be premixed.  Rigt now I'm in a bind cuz i have a broken oil feeder line and can't find a replacement.

the oil injection idea was great an all.... on paper, but like all parts can fail, this bothers me. my 73 yamaha 175 had oil injection, i pluged it, and premixed,  i figured out how much oil to tankful, and always tryed to carry an extra tankful of oil under the seat.
