GS500 SLIP-ON EXHAUST

HEY ALL, I'M FAIRLY NEW TO THE GSTWIN SITE, BUT I'M NOT NEW TO THE GS500.

So what are your options for an exhaust system on a Suzuki GS500? You can buy a Vance and Hines system, but you'll have to replace the entire exhaust and probably re-jet the carbs due to the change in exhaust header size. You'll also spend $400-500 for this system. Wouldn't it be nice to just buy a slip on pipe like our GSXR friends? NOW YOU CAN. KG CUSTOMS makes an exhaust system that will allow you to purchase any slip on pipe and lets you simply bolt it on your GS500.

Nice, i was looking at getting one but I couldn't find it under 350 bucks.....a new one anyways

A slip-on will require a re-jet as well.

Seeing as you can get a Yoshi TRS slip-on for $300, which includes the link pipe all in stainless steel (ie no paint req'd), I question whether this really represents very good value at all.  I mean you have to buy a bolt on can, send it back and forth, etc and at the end of the day you're spending more money on the link pipe than the can (to keep it under the Yoshi price). 

My money is on buying the stainless Yoshi that is already designed for the job and just bolting it on the afternoon it arrives...

No it's a slip-on so it comes with a link pipe.  You cut your existing system a few inches past the 2-into-1.

I ordered a full vance system from a local dealer for 311.xx  so I'd try them first.  Tell them you can get it on ebay for whatever plus shipping and try to meet them in the middle as they get a shipping discount I'm sure.

Cobrar980's custom job may cost as much as the yoshi set up and there's no doubt that the yoshi is the best sound wise and performance wise but I think it's more to the point that if you go on a fun run or something with a heap of bikes there maybe 5 gs500s their so there's a good chance 3 are Gunna be sporting yoshi's where as with the custom you could put anything on you want however I'm shore if you found a pipe you liked you could get someone to fit It cheaper than that, tho people still pay for convenience. Am hope for some educated feed back if anyone knows how would a different slip on effect performance? Would a pipe for a 600 be better thAn a 1000 or would a slip on for other twin cylinders be better than something made for a four cylinder?

I got my yosh pipe / slip on for $380, new model and what-not though, i could have gotten a better deal if i hunted but i decided to support my local shop instead

Rather than resurrecting a 4 year old thread, it would have been better to start a new one.

That said, "best" exhaust is a matter of preference much like "best" oil or "best" tires or whether or not "loud pipes save lives." Very debatable, but no one ever wins.

Chop off stock pipe, bend a new length, weld. $15 bucks tops.

Thats $170 in 2008. With inflation...wait.
