So I need a topcase. and bought one from http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Givi-Topbox-rack-for-Suzuki-GS500-E-01-05_W0QQitemZ150221976958QQihZ005QQcategoryZ30240QQtcZphotoQQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp1713.m153.l1262
I only pay 47 english pounds (check their ebay store sales on ebay.co.uk)

here is the install

tools you need

1 - remove seat  and indicated bolts and put the 2-up rider handle away

2 - 2 more bolts .

3- 2 screws, remove rear tailing and bulbs

4- remove the license plate assembly and pull the tail assembly away

5- remove this bolt (do one at a time) (repeat for other side)

6- Using provided bracket, assemble with bolt previsouly remove, but do not tighten all the way

7- remove this bolt

8- using the provided bracket reassemble with new bolts provided, do not tighten all the way

9-  align the rear bolt assembly (now you will understand why everything is not all tightened up!

10- bolt it in place.. TIGHTEN IT. then the bolt at fender then rear bracket bolt (repeat for other side)

11- now admire your work, have a smoke or a sip of a beer or what ever is your favorite poison.

12- insert nut-sleeve in each ends

13- slip on support end and reassemble the tail assembly in place

14- this part is going to get on your nerves.. the bnut-sleeve moves with a touch of the bolt and pivots away.
(took me 15 mins to line the bolts into the nuts, hard part is holding the plate in place atop the supprt plate atop the sleeve and all parts are "loose" until bolted up.... )
here is the final result.

make sure all is nice and tight, put the 4 10mm bolts back in place so the tail doesnt move anymore. the handle has become obsolete as it interfers with the kapp box slot (closest to seat)

another shot opf final product, I did remove my led taillight kit, as I am having a burnt resistance that needs fixing, so I but the OEM tailight back in place (yes I know until I put the LED back on I have no turn signals in the rear.)

yet another view

anyways Ill put it on the wiki in a bit , right now... any opinions ?

yer gs halth becometh a v-strom-eth !

you gotta rock in yer tire, a cat that needs swinging, and the trash needs to go out.

jk man, looks proper, what's the weight rating on that deal ?

thanks for sharing the howto including hex sizes - looks sharp and usable !

NICE RACK!

But now the real question:  How bouncy is it?   :icon_mrgreen:

Are you going to put a Givi hibachi err...  top case on it?
Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

lol well too short for a wee-strom so I have to make due with what I have :)
rock in tire well 600ft driveway is gravel driveway, its always got some rocks stuck in it... make for better reason to not tailbate me ;)
the cat was fixed 10 years and 3 months ago, its only interested in food.
yes your right about that the trash needs to go, this morning on the curb as a matter of fact :)

lol

weight rating, (I knew someone would of asked...) no idea, I can tell you its about 5x time stronger (all metal) than the Givi plastic assembly I had on my scooter.  it will hold an E30 (30Liters topcase) and its content without a problem.

thanks ! lol, I did a quick run with it and I cannot "feel" it back there... then again did not have a case on it yet. buts its very solid.
with the side arms bolted to the frame like it is... I am looking for a small case actually (something to hold milk a loaf of bread and whatnot I get at the market on my way home from work) probably an E30N or something of the same size.

Your rear light suddenly became red , I suspect the black cat and the trash can are all involved  :icon_razz:

I have a black six toed freak of a cat. She love to chase you through the house then at five in the morning bite you on the neck. guess that is why she was named Akasha from the movie Queen of the Damned by the previous owner! I love the little freak though!
