Sold my 02 naked GS500 today and feel a little sad about it.  It almost brought a tear to my eye seeing my old faithful GS being trailered away in the night. It was my very first bike after taking the MFS last year. It was the perfect starter bike but also had enough power to keep me interested for a long time. A fun and easy bike to ride that I will miss  I just recently purchased a V-Strom 650 which they say is also an easy bike to ride. Compared to the GS, it has a much steeper learning curve which is a testament to GS500's ability. Had the V-Stom been my first bike, I surely would have wrecked it. Reason for selling is I wanted something taller, newer, more powerful and something with a little off roading capabilities. Anyway, I want to say thank you to all of you that have made this forum so incredibly helpful and informative. I haven't posted much but I've spent many hours lurking and learning. Patrick (pbureau) especially was very supportive to a noob like me. I told my buyer, Steven, of how Patrick followed me into a Wal Mart parking lot in Wylie just because I was on a GS500. That was an important moment in my stage of riding that showed me what a tight knit group GS riders are and bikers in general. Anyway, I want you all to welcome Steven from Hurst TX as a new member of the GStwin.com family. He just recently took the MFS course and is a new rider.

Barry - good luck with the new bike!  Do me a favor and tell Steve he has a contact about 4 hours south of him in Houston.  He can come down here and buy me a beer anytime, hehe.  Seriously, have him register and pm me.  Buddha was here for a while but I am not sure if he still is as "buddha travels like the wind"

Thanks. I have a soft spot for you guys. Haven't heard from new guy Steve. I think the guy works a jazillion hours a week so it might be a while before he finally signs up here (if he does).

For you Texas boys, are any of yall doing the Pie run in Marshall next Saturday? Info is on twtex.com. Here is the link to the thread...http://www.twtex.com/forums/showthread.php?t=26547. Not sure if I'm going or not. The destination sounds like a hoot with all the bikers meeting there but the journey is the question mark. Anybody know how interesting the trip might be from DFW?

I was in the Navy with a guy named Kyle Shoup who wouldn't stop talking about Permia High's football team. He and I graduated in 89' right before the book Friday night lights came out. My wife wants to move to Dallas where her brother relocated, I told her its to hot for me, but I would considder Alberqurque NM. How do you ride in out there in the summer with out getting a heat stroke??  -- JIM :)

Lots of mesh and try to keep moving. Stopping can be uncomfortable which is why I'm looking for a flip helmet that I flip up to cool my head when stopped. Hopefully Patrick can chime in. He must have a clue how to stay cool........I've seen the guy with full leathers on in August in Dallas on a very HOT day!
