Been drinking Yuengling Black & Tan for a while now, never gotten tired of it.

Can't go wrong with regular Yuengling if you like lagers, about any IPA, and I catch a lot of sh!t for it, but Iron City Light when I'm within range of the 'burgh

The best beer you will ever taste is the one that you brewed yourself.  I have a special recipe that I call 'Liquid Stoopid'.  Its a nice, dark red ale at about 7%abv with a strong smokey note, oodles of malt and a nice high-acid hop to balance it out... think Sam Adam's Scotch ale, but easy on the spice note... yum.

off the rack, Red Hook ESB, DogFishHead 60 or 90 minute IPA, or maybe even a Sierra Nevada Bigfoot barelywine in the winter.

My gold medals are distributed as follows:

- party swill:  Miller Lite
- with a cigar:  Westmalle Trappist (double is best, IMO)
- as a single, RedHook ESB (cool day), Radebeger Pilsner (warm day)
- mass-produced domestic swill:  Michelob
- from the emerald isle: Harp Lager (most under-rated of the Guinness brews)
- worst idea for a beer ever:  Hefeweizen (cloves?  REALLY? blech)
2 C8H18 + 25 O2 = 16 CO2 + 18 H2O + :)

- worst idea for a beer ever:  Hefeweizen (cloves?  REALLY? blech)

Which hefeweizen has cloves. there is a 100 types of it. In fact Blue moon is one type of hefe.
Hefe means yeast, weizen means wheat and its best unfiltered with a nice sediment.
They have stuff with lemon and cilantro, and some of them have honey, and ofcourse apricot and raspberry ... I am yet to see one with cloves.
BTW hefe is supposed to be drunk by pouring into a glass, stopping with 2-3 Oz in the bottom, stirring ip up to get the sediment all up and then pour into glass. Sediment is supposed to be roused and drunk. Good stuff that.
Top fermenting ones like blue moon dont have a sediment but are cloudy, bottom fermenting ones like shiner hefeweizen are clear but have a thick sediment. All are good, just that shiner typically embodies the best of the lot.
Cool.

I think he means the Clove-like smell produced by the esters from the yeast, not actual cloves in the beer.  And Blue Moon is a type of Wit.

The Buddha

Yea blue moon is white wheat and almost entirely fermented by top fermenting yeast. Cloudy and no sediment.
I prefer the brown wheat and bottom fermenting ones though. Blue moon is great though, in the absense of the dark/bottom I'll take Bluemoon. God beer ... mmmm beer ...

yes. hefs aren't brewed with actual cloves, but they have a very distinct clove note to them which I find unpleasant.  Some people love wheat beers.... I'm just not one of them.

Oh ... OK. They do put all sorts of weird stuff in them, like shock top has coriander, and some others have orange peel ... thankfully, I dont taste any of it. Raspberry and lemon or orange and honey are all I taste.
Cool.

Pumpkin huh ...
I dunno, I just like the regular hefeweizen's. Anyway, Bluemoon is a little on the clean and clear side for me. I prefer the bottom fermenting ones. Pyramid, shiner, purple haze etc are all good ones IMHO.
Cool.

My handle is actually a reference to my usual IM name "UltimateBeerSnob."  I usually drink some stuff that most other people don't find all that appealing.  For the most part, I really can't stand most mass produced beers.  I like many different styles, but it has to have some flavor and sometimes a little intensity is good too.  Wheat beers are great for summer months, and they're about as light as I go, but I'm also a big fan of stouts, porters, IPA's (especially double IPA's), brown ales, etc.  Most microbrewers have something I can enjoy, but here are a few of my favorites in no particular order:

Bell's
Stoudt's
Rogue
Stone
Dogfish Head
Three Floyd's
Victory
New Glarus
Lagunitas
Great Lakes
Founder's
...honestly, I could go on for quite a while...

Now that's one out of the "extreme" category that i've been unable to convince myself to spend the cash on.  Spending $8-10 for a bottle of Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA or Dogfish Head Worldwide Stout is just about as far as I've gone.  Those are both pretty amazing beers--though definitely not everyday beers.  I'm most definitely willing to try the Utopias, but someone else is going to have to buy it.  What's it run?  Near $125 per bottle.

Oh, and I don't care how cool the bottle looks either.   :icon_mrgreen:  I actually know someone who actually bought a bottle of that stuff...and never opened it.  He has no intentions of doing so either.  Believe you me, if I spend that kind of cash on a beer, I WILL know what it tastes like!
Rock on.
