Hey guys I just, repainted my exahust and thought i'd try a dual colour thing. Its black down the down pipes and then blue from there back. What does everyone think? You can get the heat resistant blue paint off loads of classic car websites...

One of the guys i work with says it looks cool but i should try and gloss up the blue, but the highest temp gloss i can find is only good up to about 450C (900F) here http://www.transworldmotocross.com/article.jsp?ID=1000020465&typeID=765. I know i couldn't gloss the down pipes but are the pipes cool enough from where they join backwards (i.e. the blue bit)?

Well, I think it's not a bad idea. I have always thought things like your headers and exhaust should be neutral. Not really meant to attract attention. That being said, I believe if you're gonna do it do all of it. I looks slightly unfinished to me. The pipe gets over 900F before the can as well. It's always worth a try, but may not work too well.

it's going to discolor...that's why most of the time you don't see colored exhaust pieces.  Either bare metal or black (black doesn't discolor as drastically).

I'd have to say I agree. I prefer my pipe to be black and remain inconspicuous (although at the moment its a nice blend of dark grey with hints of orange-brown rust  :icon_rolleyes:) See how the color holds. It it goes to pot, maybe try using one of the different black paints that various members have used here to nice aesthetic effect. But if you're going to paint it w/color, I say do the whole thing (if you can find a paint that can withstand the extreme temps). Good luck.

Btw, what kind of case guards are those? Where did you get them? They appear to have three mounting points to absorb impact as opposed to the two that MC Enterprises sells. I like the look better as well. K, thanx

:o MY EYES! MY EYES! MAKE IT GO AWAY!

OK, it seems that my eyes don't like it; I think my retinas might have melted a bit... Well, now we know why people use color on CAR exhausts; they're on the BOTTOM of the car, where most people (thankfully) can't see them.

So, maybe a bit harsh, but I don't like it; I don't like the stupid chrome band on the pipe, either; I will NEVER understand how that is supposed to make AN EXHAUST PIPE somehow become more appealing. I applaud your efforts, and I'm sure the color will appeal to some people, but it reminds me of the jewel-encrusted "Mr. Potato Head" that was being sold during the holidays a while back. As Lewis Black said (in reference to the jewel-encrusted Mr. Potato Head), "OK, we've officially run out of things to jewel-encrust".

A+ for effort; can't say I like the effect.

i thought about a cool color scheme for the exhaust once. WHITE/ORANGE up by the head, fading to RUST (what my headers currently look like) fading to stove black, fading to gloss black.

you know, that "I run my bike so lean and so fast that my pipes are about to fall the heck off from the heat!" ;)

Especially in the UK I wouldn't bother to repaint the exhaust - stainless steel is the only possibility to cope with this weather!

Interesting idea, but not my cup of tea...
