Exhaust Procurement

This is one for the fellow Brits, mostly..

I dearly want to add a new exhaust system and lunchbox to my bike. I'm looking for some performance gain, and an improved sound. The problem I've encountered is that a Jardine or Predator exhaust, for example, seems to go for at least £350 ($700!!), with the lunchbox on top. For a bike that I only paid £600 for, I'm not sure I can bring myself to do it.

Any suggestions as to alternative exhaust systems / suppliers that I can consider? Any way of searching for a used system?

Nexxus , I had one . sold it on ebay ,
Predetor , i have one  , got it with a bike i payed 400 for , so you no , bargin ,

Ebay , the can comes around , and u can just cut the stock pipes and put it on,

full systems , go on ebay , for Nexxus , 180 seems to be how much they go for ,
had i known i would have kept the nexxus for you

That's interesting - what are your thoughts on both those systems? Would either give me what I want?

If you just get a can how difficult is it to attach it to the stock pipes?

Well , i ran both with a Lunchbox , and i think the lunchbox makes the biggest difference in sound , u hear it sucking the air and grunting ,

The Predetor looks better than the nexxus , sounds better in my eyes ,

its all about the size of the link pipe , The stock r1 can will go on , and that has a 41mm or 43mm pipe , check the wiki , its on there under exhausts , if u find a can with a pipe it will go on

also , u could have a Flange made to execpt new cans, with the 3 or 4 bolt system , also , on the wiki demostrates Buddha's Flanges

Lunchbox is the one , however , on these new carbs , im having a little difficulty with my rejetting , so if worst comes to worse , im a put back my airbox and sell the Lunchbox

I bought a Yoshi TRS from starcycle.com in the US.  I know it isn't UK based, but even posting it all the way to Australia wasn't too expensive - so I can't imagine it would be too expensive for you Brits.

It set me back $300 plus postage (<$70).  They also threw in the lunchbox for me too - which again saved on shipping.

It was certainly waaaaaaay cheaper than anything I could have bought over here.

The kit was excellent and very straightforward to put on.  You could have it on the bike the day it arrives.

It's a 1998, for all the difference it makes.

Thanks for the advice, I'll reassess my options. I won't shy away from investing in the bike, but it's got to be at a sensible price...

I found this, which looks pretty competitive price-wise, but they don't ship overseas. Is there a US member who'd be willing to take delivery then post it over for me? How much do you reckon that would cost?

i think ud be paying more , shipping is done by size and weight , to send my nexxus to scotland from south cost me 25 pounds

I think u should get a flange made and get a slip on , probs do it all for under 80 pounds

in case you will not win this one, you should go for a flange. You could make it by yourself. 5mm steel will do. It's not hard!! Just take precise measurements, then take it to the shop and they will weld it on for you (if you don't have tools)
good luck

That auction looks very attractive - I've asked the seller if they're willing to post to Blighty.

Jay, is the performance benefit of an exhaust compromised if you JUST get a slip on rather than a full system?

Can a flange be made to adapt a full system, or only to adapt a can to the existing pipes?

I seriously doubt it.  The biggest increase is going from a heavily baffled stock exhaust to a straight-thru sports can.  The few millimetres difference between different makes of headers is not going to make any noticable difference in comparison, if any at all.

The only real benefit of a full system is that they generally come in stainless which means that you wont have to periodically strip and paint your headers.  Which may or may not be a factor in your purchase decision.

Okay, that clears things up a bit. My headers are a bit skanky, so if I can find a full stainless system it *would* look pukka.
