hey guys i was riding the other day and i hit a straight so i figured i would see what the gs could do.  I topped out at like 95 is that normal im 6'3 240 since im sure that has a lot to do with it

AFMO

I've seen 110-115 indicated...who knows if that's accurate.  I think around 110 is the general consensus for the GS.
1994 GS--Sonic springs, K & N, 15T, bar end mirrors, V & H exhaust, katana shock and new paint coming...

I've got my 06 up to 125 then it started shaking and my front end wanted to lift up a little so I slowed down.

gsJack

Published road tests show measured top speeds for the GS to range from 99 to 111 mph over the years:

I weigh 240# and had my 97 up to 110 mph indicated with a Plexi 2 fairing on it.  Speedos are about 10% high with stock size front tire.  Probably was a slight downgrade with a tailwind, hard to tell in the mountains.
407,400 miles in 30 years for 13,580 miles/year average.  Started riding 7/21/84 and hung up helmet 8/31/14.

Every zero you add to the tolerance adds a zero to the price.

If the product "fails" will the product liability insurance pay for the "failure" until it turns 18?

Were you in a tuck? That'll get you at least another 5. With my GS500F I think the fairings help a lot because I regulary get to 120 pretty quickly and on a good long stretch in the right conditions have seen 130 on the flats.

What mods do you have to get those speeds? No one here get's past 110,even with engine work.I'll say this and GSJack has already commented on it.The GS speedo is faster than the speed you are actually running.Grab a GPS unit and check it out. Also the gearing is wrong to allow for those speeds.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

quickness is much more fun than top end speed.

mine's been to around 100 several times, but it's not really all that impressive to me. the handling of the gs is what I like. :)

My bike is bone stock but but I only weigh 130 and can tuck so low I don't even hear wind. Another factor is I'm running rock hard Kings tires which probably lower my rolling resistance considerably and I was trying for top speed so I inflated them to an extra hard 40 psi it's also 140/70-17 so I've got taller gearing, the GS's power peaks at around the 9000 rpm band as I've heard, so it's important to stay there not near redline. Other conditions that may have contributed was that it was cool weather and sea level so dense air gives more power, and the run was at around 2 am so nobody around to bust me. I reached 130 and that was it. But on a regular basis with a good tuck I get 120 indicated (108 gps) consistently. 130 I've gps'd on my bike at 117 mph for real real, not for play play. I guess this is consistent with what suzuki and wikipedia claim as a top speed of 115.

how fast can you go backwards   :icon_mrgreen: From unloading bikes at work all the time I have gotten REALLY good at riding backwards w/o putting my feet down.  :icon_mrgreen: We have a long loading ramp that goes out into the parking lot. I can come down it backwards and ride until I run out of space.. About 250 Yards  :thumb:

I can even turn and have gotten better at a backwards figure 8  :icon_twisted: I took a Goldwing we had w/ reverse and rode for a good bit all backwards  :cookoo: Fun!

I'm going to have to ride down to PA some Saturday to confirm this.   :icon_mrgreen:

I usually back out of my driveway with my feet off the ground I can usually go about 10 feet or so backwards then have to stop. I'm gonna practice making my 3 point reverse turn backwards without putting a foot down.

GI_JO_NATHAN

My F will do 125 indicated, no telling the actual speed.

I have buried the needle on my 89' twice.  I'm guessing that's 115-120 with the error % on the gauge.  All I have done is added a lunchbox, removed some weight, and rejetted to 140s, which are still lean I think.

I hear with a power commander you can hit 150.  j/k
