Chain tension bolts

Has any one else in here had a problem with the chain tighting assembly down there bending? the plates on mine have caved in and have had to be flattened out several times now and one of the bolts in it has gotten bent on the side thats constantly caving in. It's happening on the sprocket side is this normal? Anything I can do to make it stop before I replace the chain tension adjusters to keep it from happening again?

/is there anything to do to prevent it from bending so I can keep my new ones not bent?

if you tighten your rear axle properly you shouldn't ever crush one of those adjusters. :)

In 130k miles of GS500 riding I've only had that happen once.  It was when I had a rear wheel bearing going bad due to a spacer having been left out.  As the brg ground up the axle became loose, no problem since the brgs were replaced and of course the missing spacer.  Keep your axle nut tight, it's something like 55-80 ft lbs range as I recall.  Can check if you don't have it.

I just realized, thanks to dgyver, that I was missing the left rear wheel axle spacer. I've only had my bike for two years... I probably should check the bearings.

Ok tell me this I just hit 9000 miles on my 06 i bought new is that alot? And with that what kind of mantinance should I be doing to it now?

valve clearance check
brake pad check
chain slack/kink check
tires check
head bearings check
fuel fiilter (if so equipped) replacement
clutch adjustment (this makes for a nice feeling ride) check (not really needed with only 9000 miles though)
and go around checking all your bolts/nuts /stuff are not about to fall out (when was the last time you checked your rear sets bolts ? :) )

I checked all the bolts when we had it stripped down to paint it but how do I check valves is it easy or hard?
