Anyone have photos of a Stebel Nautilus horn mounted on a GS500?

Hi there,
I did a search of the board and found lots of posts by people adding new loud horns to their GS500s, but I haven't been able to find anyone who's posted a photo of an aftermarket Stebel Nautilus compact air horn on their bike.
Can anyone post their pix of this?
I'm considering adding one to my 1991 GS500E. I have dual Fiamm electric horns but want to see if a louder Nautilus is worth the trouble.
I have a naked bike, so where did you mount your Nautilus?
The stock horn location in front of the valve cover doesn't look like there's enough room, plus I worry it would block cooling air to the cylinder head.
Any ideas and photos of your mounting scheme that you can share?
Thanks,
Todd

I, too, have dual disc horns (details).  I originally looked that the Stebel Magnum and ran into great difficulty finding a place for such a bulky horn to live on my naked bike without it sticking out like dog's balls.  The Nautilus being even larger than the Magnum, would be even worse.

I can tell you about the sound difference, though - because I mounted my Magnum on a mate's faired bike.

Firstly, the trumpet-style horns of the Magnum and Nautilus are a lot more directional.  They project out forwards in a cone of sound.  The discs are more omni-directional, meaning the sound radiates outwards in all directions.

Second of all loudness is not just about numbers.  The Magnum and the HM80/2's I have are measured by the same manufacturer to be the same number of decibels - but my HM80's sound louder.  Why?  Because there's two of them (at two different frequencies) acting as a dischordant pair - it has that fat, 'train-horn' sound (bwaaar).  The single horn of the Magnum or Nautilus is a single frequency and gives that pure 'peep' sound.

Anyway, there's my experience with directly comparing different horn setups, for what it's worth!  :thumb:

I just installed mine about 20 minutes ago. Took me all of about 5 minutes to install. All I did was drill a new hole on the horns mounting bracket and used the stock mounting position on the bike. It looks out of place in the picture because you know its there but it isnt that obvious. I am going to paint it all black to make it fit in better. I accidentally dropped it in the dirt while I was drilling the hole on it.

My stepdad mounted one on his Harley, really loud. I think they sound quite funny, like a clown car or something. But they definitely get your attention, that's for sure!

I notice that you have mounted yours upside-down, contrary to the mounting instructions detailed by the manufacturer.  You may want to rethink this - it will collect rain water, dust and other debris - the other way up it is designed to shed all these by gravity.  Also it is a bit strange you have opted to have all your sound projecting out to one side of the bike?  :dunno_white:

I live in the desert so rain I am not worried about. Everything gets blown out of the horn during operation. I chose the most easiest way to mount it and it works for me. Its still loud all around, its just extra loud if you happen to be on my left:)

I have opted the same fashion of install (for now), I ride 80% in traffic (home-work-home) and I am usually in right lanes, so not much of an issue, but I am working on a relayed system to have one stebel on each side of the bike, or switch to a dual front mounted under the oil coolder mod. that looks very nice as well. I am probably going to switch to this mod : http://gstwins.com/gsboard/index.php?topic=40914.0
it does look cleaner. Now the question is how strong a double horn I can mount ? going to have to look at stebel or friamm horns all over again...lol
