Today I brought the bike to a family members house to be stored for winter. This was first highway trip for extended period of time sense new mods. I spent about 35 min at 120kph and 7k rpm. I went through proper winterizing procedures and went to put on cover but noticed engine was still hot so decided to wait an hr and let it cool. After an hour I return and while my pipes were all cool to tuch the engine was still warm, particularly in the "lower part" behind the circular engine caps that say Suzuki. It was noticeably hot here still. Oil is new and at appropriate level.

Is this normal?

Physics!

The top is aluminum, mostly empty space and loaded with cooling fins.

The bottom has lots of steel (transmission, crank) and is filled with oil. That will cool down much slower than the top end.

When running, everything heats up at the same rate because oil is circulating and carrying heat all over the place.

When sitting, all that hot oil is in the bottom where there are no cooling fins. The top with all the cooling fins will get cold much faster.

Yea it's normal, it's fine don't worry do your winterisation.
Some say that he submitted a $20000 expense claim for some gravel

And that if he'd write a letter of condolance he would at least spell your name right.

Mine stays warm for hours after a ride. At least 2-3hrs.
Why are you looking here?

I agree that the lower cases will stay warm for a long time but I have been surprised how quickly the top end cools, even on a warm day. After a long run and then standing at 25 deg C ambient for 1 hour my GS is happier with a little choke to restart or it will not idle until it has run for two or three minutes. My bike is a K9 and bog stock (engine/tuning/exhaust wise). Once warmed up it runs beautifully.    :thumb:
