i know i can find one cheap. the wife has said she's tired of hearing me Buddha Loves You about not having a bike and tired of hearing me Buddha Loves You about the gas prices. so she's said that with the stimulus check we're supposed to get to just get a cheap used bike to ride back and forth to work. wow. sounds like what you guys have been telling me all along.  anyways. i'm looking at trying not to finance, and if i do, not much. i'm looking at droppin close to 2k. or under if i can.

Rock the rebel, I have been all day.

This thing is a blast to rip around town on.  Its definitely gutless, and I lost in a straight line to a hopped up diesel truck unfortunately, but look what it is.  A small person cruiser to get around town and not look like a poser in a harley jacket. I get waves from everyone on this thing.
GS500E with a bunch of cool stuff!

How much money do you have saved up??  You should buy a 3k gs500f. they are about the same to insure, but the rebel gets 65 in town and 70mpg on the highway with sometimes more.

i'm lookin at something i can ride back and forth to work. round trip is less than 20-25 miles. it would allow my wife to keep the car more often. and i'm sure i'd use less gas. when we had a second vehicle, we only filled up the main car twice a month and my work car every 3weeks.

aye, but local roads, via interstate?, teh rebel, although some might disagree, ( a great bike BTW) is not well suited for interstate travels

i've met guys on ninja 250's and 250 rebels that smoke guys on r1's consistantly. not that the smoking matters, but it's proof they can be fun, cheap, and get great gas mileage. not to mention it STILL LEANS man ;)

went to look at a shell for my toyota, and the guy commutes on a rebel. said something like 70 mpg @ 55 mph, if he keeps the air filter clean. ;) oh, and he said he commuted 50 miles, one way, daily. ;)

nothing wrong with that !

jserio,
my answer:
-Gas prices are insane: yes, definitely, and on this side of the pond things are even worse I suppose. :icon_rolleyes:
-Considering a Rebel as your bike...hmm, I'm perplexed.

As far as I could understand from your posts I can see you're a responsible husband and father :)
Rebels IMHO are bikes for beginner youngsters. So are many bikes out there, like 125 cc's, (ok, one of these can and will smoke me out, I know), 50 cc race replicas (they sell well here, but only to 14-16 yr old boys).
I could see one of them 250cc Rebels last week in my town, it sounded like a scooter. :o And I must confess it gave me quite a "wannabe-Harley-junior-rider" feeling. :dunno_white:
If your main concern is gas economy, why not get a CVT scooter? I had one and it went like a charm. But it was a scooter and as such it looked like. :icon_mrgreen:
Or, if you crave for a motorbike, why not a Ninja 250?
I also like the naked Hyosung 250's looks, dunno what's-it-called in the US.
I won't name the GS, that's just too easy to mention on a dedicated message board. :icon_mrgreen:

Just my personal opinion. To each his/her own. :thumb:
Cheers!

ummm... No.

Not gonna happen, unless the person on the R1 is a 12 year old taking his first ride.

Yeah the rebel seals its purpose as a solid little cruiser. Nice bikes. Damn right it will get you from A - B... and cheap... if u like it, can find a good one for good price, go for it.

Yep, and an R1 is gonna toast em in the turns just as fast as the straights. Normaly I would stand up for the fact that a GS can "kinda" hang w/ a 600 maybee 750 in the turns but no 250 ninja is going to beat an R1... Not gonna happen unless the R1 rider is blind and dumb and has 2 flat tires. If it was possible I think you would see some 250s on the super bike track w/ the big boys

No, not possible not any day... I think someone is smoking something more than R1's   8)

What if the r1 slowed to much for the corner , got the 250 in the perfect spot in the perfect gear at the perfect rpm , got on the inside , whilst the r1 rider selects 6th gear at 20 mph , on the way out of it ?

What about a Suzuki Gz250?  Or, a Yamaha XV250 Route 66/Virago?
