600 mile service

I just bought a 2007 GS500F. I was told to bring it in at 600 miles. Does anyone know what this 600 mile service consists of? If its just an oil change I can do that.

Unless you know what you are doing better to take it to a dealer as it is more than just a filter and oil change.

Check page 6-4 of your owners manual for what they will do.

hehehe mine goes in 9.00am tomorrow morning for the first service.  Can't wait to get it back to have a play.

At 600 miles it IS a new machine!  Mine's got over 24,000 miles.

My 05 Gs500F just turned 28,500 whats your point.

There's nothing on the list that you can't do yourself with a little patience and background reading. The valve clearance check is a little involved, but there's lots of info on the forum (including a step-by-step HOW TO video made by Kerry). Most of these items are good routine maintenance, and are worth learning how to do anyways:

Initial 600 miles or 1000km:

• Tighten cylinder nuts and exhaust pipe bolts
• Inspect valve clearance, adjust if necessary
• Inspect all fuel lines for leakage
• (California models) Inspect evaporation canister and vapor lines
• Change engine oil and replace filter
• Check engine idle speed; adjust to 1200 rpm if necessary
• Check clutch adjustment; adjust if necessary
• Check drive chain tension; adjust if necessary
• Inspect all brake hoses for leakage
• Check brake fluid levels in both master cylinders; add fluid if necessary
• Check brake pad wear
• Inspect tire condition and air pressure
• Check steering operation; adjust if necessary
• Check operation of front forks
• Check rear suspension operation
• Check all chassis bolts and nuts for tightness; tighten if necessary

That being said, all of this work must be done thoroughly and properly to ensure safe operation of the vehicle. If you do not feel confident doing the work yourself, by all means bring the bike to a shop.

Also make sure if you do it yourself you keep full details of what you have done incase you need warranty work.  I know suzuki here in Australia are funny about that and you need a shaZam! load of proof that you have done the service and inspections correctly.

Mine is at the shop now for it's 1000km service as I may have to claim a warranty issue.  Rear disc "may" have a slight warp in it.  spin the back wheel and it feels like a stretched chain is hitting a tight spot.  Thought it was the rear pads wearing in but after 1000km they SHOULD be run in and performing well.  They have not phoned me yet to pick up the bike so I can only assume they are trouble shooting the rear disc.

hahaha.. now that I read what I posted earlier, I find it funny. I mean after the initial service it felt a lot more reponsive on the throttle.. maybe it's all in my head.
