GS engine lugs at 2nd gear

Hi,

My GS lugs on 2nd gear when the bike is at a slow (cornering) speed.  This happens almost all the time when I make turns.  For example, as I approach a right hand turn, I down shift to 2nd gear before the turn, make sure I am in gear, then I lean.  As I lean, I give a some throttle.  When I do that, the engine lug a few times, then it is fine when I am just finishing my turn.  I am just curious if this is normal.  Am I cornering a little slow?

I thought the 2nd gear should not lug when the bike is moving.  Any tips/suggestions on my technique?  Thanks a bunch!

You may be going too slow for 2nd gear. Try rolling on the throttle from the same speed and in 2nd gear but in a straight line and see what happens. I'm guessing you need to downshift to 1st or corner at a higher speed.

about what rpms are you at when it starts to lug?

I try to keep mine at about 5000 RPM when cornering.  It doesn't lug at that speed.

I think I might be cornering a little slow on 2nd gear.  Today I tried to corner a little faster, and the bike sounded fine.

btw, what gear do u guys use for turns?  2nd or 3rd?  1st gear is really choppy for making turns as I found out.

What is the rev you guys have when cornering?  i think mine might be about 2000.

if its like a 90 degree turn; then second...especially in chicago traffic....occasionally i will get some angles where i can keep it in third....
the closer you are the quicker it hits you...

2000 RPM is barely above idle.  No wonder it's lugging.  Try it about 4000 or so.  The bike makes nearly no power until over 6000 RPM.  The turn you are making at 2000 in second would go smoothly in 1st gear.
