Unless you're talking about kilometers, I'd say no.

Even with rejetting gearing and all that jazz,it ain't going any faster. It may get there faster. The engine just looses it's torque and can't over come wind resistance, rolling resistance and weight.

if you want top speed you bought the wrong bike.

Well, in miles per hour, at least, the bike's gauge is marked up to 130mph. I'm guessing that this is the theoretical limit with the engine redlining on 6th.

Never even got close to that speed, even with WOT. Maybe with a decent downhill and tailwind...

I just hope yo're not serious. I mean, c'mon. That mind numbing speed isn't enough for you? You need a drag stip and a liter bike. Oh, and a hospital on call at all times.

Yeah, the bike only gets to death speeds, not quite liquification, but thats what we people must deal with when we buy such a "slow ass" bike.

Only goes 120... sheesh.   Sorry, I just found this extremely funny.  :icon_mrgreen:

Ive seen 130 indicated , which i think is a 117 , fast enough to leave nothing but a stain , the gs is for carving twistys , anyone can jump on a litre bike and do 160+

The GS speedo reads faster than you're actually going.Best way to know your correct speed is GPS.Theoretical speed in a perfect world for the gs, and it's gearing, is 141mph.

It has 38hp at the rear wheel. 120mph sounds pretty good. Buy an R1. 80mph in 1st  :thumb:

08GSSteve

erm yea 120 is fast.  My GPX750R would level out at about 180mph or about 290km/hr.  Stupid yea I know but my point here is at those speeds the only thought that went through my mind was "I hope at this speed nothing goes wrong or I hit a pot hole"  hence the reason why I do not do stupid speeds anymore.

I have a wife and kids now so am happy to sit on the speed limit and ride the GS instead of bikes that go warp 9.

Your state trooper mate sounds like a tool for encouraging this on public roads.  Yes I hope he reads this post and wakes up to himself.

Think about this one:  A high speed wood working orbital sander and a body part being jammed into it...............Thats what will happen to your body parts if you come off at that speed if your survive to tell the tale.

Play it safe dude and ride safe.  Keep the high speeds for track days if speed is in your veins.

Hey

first of all I was in a very safe location  in upstate New York  but shaZam!  happens I agree.   I have been riding and racing  dirt bikes my hole life for the last 12 years cant tell you the amount of broken bonze  stitches and last but not least  first place trophies I have,  I am only 17.      The GS 500 handles like it is on rails sweet ride but slow now my 78 GS1000 only does  138  but it gets there a hell of a lot faster handles like a piano   now my GS1150 drag bike with the turbo NOS who knows how fast that is I have not had a chance to ride it yet  still working on that one .( bike pics are in my profile ) so Scott from pa I do not buy bikes to go from point a to b I buy bikes to ride like the wind and I bring my dad and his cop friends  with me so I don't get into any trouble with police

It's your business until you clip another rider passing him by 40+mph, or until you blink and next thing you know you're going through the backend of a minivan and if not physically harming small children inside, definitely psychologically scarring them.

I'm not saying I don't speed, I do and I do it a lot.  I don't try to defend it though.  It's wrong and it's a risk I take.

If you have 2 literbikes, why bother getting a 38hp 500cc and complaining that it can't go more than 2x the speed limit? GS500's are made to be slow compared to most streetbikes. That is their niche. Cheap to buy, cheap to insure, cheap on gas, cheap to fix.

I mostly do the limit. Have 1 recent ticket. Another one and I get state surcharges and probably higher insurance. With 3 bikes and 2 cars, that would suck.

Hey Anthony

I use to be just like you bro with the dirt bike trophies and going as fast as I could and still wanting more more more MORE hehehe.

We are not having a go at you flaunting the fact that you ride with a cop "incase you get into trouble" it is more the fact that riding those speeds GREATLY increases your chance of having a severe accident or fatality (either yourself or an innocent public person)

I have seen first hand a high speed fatality (2 in fact) and it is not pretty.  Me and my mate were travelling to a place called Albany here in Western Australia.  He had his wife of 4 weeks on the back of his R1 and I was on my triumph Daytona 1200 with the camping gear loaded and my wife on the back.  All his mates were in a hotted up commodore and the average speed to Albany was about 160km/hr or about 100mph.

From out of no where a farmer on his tractor pulled out to enter a paddock across the road from him and because of our speed he did not see us.  Lucky for me having more experience than him I was able to power slide the triumph and avoid impact but my mate was not so lucky and he impacted on the side of the tractor and he and his wife were killed instantly............................we had troubles finding their body parts till the ambulance arrived.  We could not even make their bodies out due to them being torn apart from the impact.

We went back the next day to collect his bike and walked round with milk crates picking up parts only.  A Yamaha R1 fits perfectly into 6 milk crates in little pieces.

Have a think about this bro because I have been there and done what you are doing now.  Now that I am 33 I can look back and see how LUCKY I am not to have been killed with some of the silly shaZam! I did that you are probably doing now.  Yes it is fun, yes you get a kick out of it, yes the adrenaline pumps but damn bro is it worth your life??????

It is your life and I am sure your mates you ride with do not want to hose down your blood smear from the road or collect your bike in milk crates.................I don't give a shaZam! what experience you THINK you may have.  All that claimed experience doesn't count for stuff all when farmer Joe is crossing the road in his tractor.........

There are plenty of ways to get the adrenaline pumping without endangering your life and others.  Have a think about it mate before getting heavy with the throttle.  You have a drag bike with NOS so leave it for the strip.
