A good time at the Harley stealership.

Saturday, May 10th.  Augusta Harley Davidson hosted a bike show/burnout contest/motorcycle sale; there was supposed to be a dyno drag session, but the machine broke down.  I had orignally planned on intering the burnout contest, but I talked myself out of it for fear of being cheated out of a win by the "Hardly" riders.  My buddies and I decided to shake things up a bit by riding out to show off some good 'ole Metric power.  We hopped on the bikes and made a nice little trip out of the 45+ mile ride, including a few wheelies down I20.  We got pleanty of looks when we pulled in the parking lot form the "hard core" types, but were glad to see a couple of faired bikes in the croud.  After hanging around, listening to the awfull music, drinking some free Monsters, and looking at the overpriced scooters in the showroom; my friends began to hastle me about the burnout contest.  I finally gave in and went to sign up, and was shocked to see there were no names on the list.  The pretty young lady at the table told me that the deadline for signup was 3p.m. and the contest was to begin at 4.  There was also a free tire up for grabs, as well as a trophy and $1,000!  I had to be at work 30 miles away at 5.  Oh well, I signed up anyway.  I wasn't about to spend hours scraping rubber off of my untertail and swingarm, so we rode over to Lows to pick up a roll of painters tape.  We got back and spent the next hour or so taping up the whole back end of my bike.  We were also told that loudness helps, so we pulled the can off of the mid pipe.  During that time, two Harleys and a CBR600RR signed up.  I went over and told the lady that I wanted to be last, so she penciled me in at the back.  I didn't want to blow out anyones ear drums, so I pushed my Gixxer over to "the pit," which turned out to be a three sided wall where dumpsters were usually kept.  So much for circles! The Honda went first, and did a nice little burnout in the first 3 gears, slinging rubber all over his polished under seat exhaust.  Next was a Harley that couldn't get out of first.  He burned his tire for about 6 or 7 minutes before it finally poped.  Third was a "jocky shift" bobber.  He had 3 guys in the pit trying to hold his back end straight, but ended up calling it quits early.  My turn!  I pushed my bike up against the wall, and cranked it up.  I looked back at the croud of 200+.  This was going to be fun!  I burned the sides of my tire for a while in 1st, then got bored and started shifting.  The speedo was reading somewhere around the 180s in 6th and I knew I didn't have long left.  I threw up the horns with my left hand and then grabed bars just before the tire let go (You can sort of see my arm raised in the video).  We all got a number and the croud got to write down their pick on a card, then throw it into a ballot box.  A few minutes later, they called my name out as the winner by 46 votes!  They handed me the trophy and cash, and told me to go inside and get the tire, but that it was a cruiser tire.  I gave it to the Harley rider who poped his tire.  It was about 5:15 so I hoped on my buddie Gavin's ZX-10R powered Z1000 and headed out.  My other friend Mike took off on his CBR929RR back home to get his truck and trailer.  Gavin stayed with my bike.  I gave Mike and Gavin each $300 for our trip to Myrtle Beach Bike Week.  I'm at the beach now, and the money is going a long way!  Let me know what y'all think of the video and pictures!

Imagin that, oil under a Harley!

ohgood

That leaking oil on the ground has a dual purpose:

1 mark his spot for the next event
2 keep the chrome from rusting

Nice burnout, and you get a G for it, on a Suzuki, in a HD crowd. Says something about the guys/gals there I suppose. :)

That's the first time I'd seen painters tape before a burnout.

Good call on the tape, trying to scrape all that rubber would have sucked and you probably would have damaged your paint.  If you get the itch for another burn out contest, you're in the right place.  They have in just about every other bar up there.

The painters tape was just a last minute idea that happened to work really well.  I've poped tires before and it jacked my undertail up bad.  The extreme heat from the rubber actually made the paint "blister" and it just pealed off.  Not this time.  Painters tape forever lol!

Just fine.

You have to tape off mirrors, turnsignals head and tail lights at most track days. Thats why we used it.

We don't have track plastics for her bike.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.
