Go here to buy your NEXT vehicle.

Now buy you a "Draw Tight Hitch" with a 2" Ball..........pull that big ass boat to the water. Oh wait, I apologize........you don't have a big ass boat. Well put that "dime ass 12 foot canoe" on the top and be happy.

You would'nt pay for a "real vehicle" but you'd damn sure pay $400,000 for a 900 sq. ft. "Loft". God Almighty damn. Where does it end?

I don't think average Joe Worker will be able to afford the "next generation" of vehicles.

Yea I saw one of these Idiocies on the road.
Damn people are stupid. Yea I understand the whole gas mileage thing, but think of the 10000's of acres used to simply park these monstrosities for over 12 hours a day, not to mention the driveway garage, the wide ass roads, the extra wide shoulders, and all the other infrastructure needed to support the car. All of that is still being needed. With a motorcycle, you can do away with 80% of that. All that would be needed, is some smart engineer well duh ... its already in existense ... to build a 400-500 CC fuel injected flex fuel bike that can run 70+ mph all day long and run over 100 mpg doing that.
Think of all the metal you save, the rubber, the plastic, the miles and miles of wire, and heck when its all said and done, it does save gas ... but its almost a side effect. Save everyhting else and maybe it will be an incentive for people to not take their triple extra size happy meal and eat it in the car ... cos you sit on your bike, your fat ass will not be covered up in a metal shell, you'll be a fat ass for everyone to see ... and you can get fat enough to not fit on a bike that size.
Cool.
Buddha.

Oh how i hate to say this but those things are quite popular around here and all over Europe. Obviously city users and short commuters are the main users but i do see an increasing number going through the port which indicates longer trips. I have been looking around at small cars recently just in case I have to give up the bike and I considered the four seater "Brabus" version which I think has a 750ish three pot engine. The ordinary 600cc Smart can hack along pretty well on the Autoroutes-Motorways-Freeways at a surprising rate.

i hate those cars.  see what happens when it meets the front bumber of my suburban at 35 mph.

They're actually very safe and hold up well in crashes.

Two things I don't like about these cars:  1- $17k is a lot for such a tiny car with almost no storage. 2- For it's size, it only gets 30-35 mpg!

The only thing going for it is that it's easy to park.  That's not enough to convince me to check it out.  Get it up to 60+ mpg and it'll start looking better for more people.

darb85

lets see how it does in a head on.  you cant tell me a go cart will win against half the vehicals in the US.  they are dumb cars

Yeah I wouldn't like to let my wife and son ride around in one of these, not to mention what does a family of 3 or 4 do?

Our Ford Focus gets almost identical mileage seats four and has a much larger crumple zones for a better chance of surviving an impact.

Just as an FYI my ex wifes daughter was in a full size truck that suffered a head on collision with a compact car at 60mph and both her and her father as well as the driver of the other vehicle that crossed the center line were wearing safety belts and all died. Size differences are no gaurantee off survival ibn a head on collision. Even something this small could easily kill the occupants of a full size truck or suburban in a head on collision where both vehicles are moving at highway speeds.
Why didn't you just go the whole way and buy me a f@#king Kawasaki you bastards.

spc

I believe there is a diesel version that is not offered yet in the states capable of 60ish mpg.  Honestly if you want something small that gets good mileage a new Mini base is around the same price and mpg with a lot more room and a good bit more power to play with.

Everyone always said that my Fiero I had years ago was a death trap and could never survive a crash... Well, I was hit head-on by a mustang and secconds later rear ended by a Honda Accord... Both the mustang and honda had been totaled by their insurance companies... My fiero, Just cracked some plastic and the windsheild. In total I  needed about $800 in repairs :thumb: My CD player didnt even skip (no joke)

Back on the Smart subject... I agree that its a stupid purchase, for 35MPG I would just buy a Toyota  :thumb:

its actually a good deal stronger than your suburban. there are videos of smart cars hitting concrete barriers at SEVENTY MILES PER HOUR and the occupants survived, with minimal injuries.

your suburban will put the engine and most of the front end into your lap at seventy miles an hour.

Just so's ya know's ;)

oh, here's that video: http://youtube.com/watch?v=CJHpUO-S0i8

-never- underestimate the power of good engineers that are allowed to make a safe product.

now, lets remember the amount of mass a smart car has to stop, compared to a suburban. hitting a concrete barrier isn't always what happens, agreed. since a head on between a suburban and a smart car will never be done by NHTSA, we'll just have to stick with these videos.

Here's that suburban, crashing at only 45 mph. ouch:

ok, cool, i'm done now :D

Well, kinda. Watch the Suburban's wheel well area. The wheels are known to penetrate the passenger cabin, crushing feet/legs. Also, the SUV's test WAS ONLY AT 45 MPH, not the 70 mph of the smarts ;)

Where is the OUTRAGE??? WHERE IS THE OUTRAGE?????

This takes me back on an old saying that I used long ago............. "you're taking a duck out of the lake (in the wild) and putting him on a concrete slab witha chain link fence around it and a bowl of water and telling him to be happy".

Why aren't people out in the streets with burning torches and rope??? "They" are slowly taking away all our luxuries, just as they destroyed our educational system, our farmers, our neighborhoods, our manufacturing jobs, and our damned country. Why, WHY
aren't more people OUTRAGED?????? "THEY" will come after your/our properties soon enough. You won't be able to afford ANY luxuries unless you are one of the elitists.
