Did V&H make a stainless, or at least an unpainted pipe for the GS500?

I thought V&H was made of a low grade stainless steel that's prone to rust over a long period of time.  :dunno_white:

Why?Certain grades of stainless contain low consentrations of iron.Over time they rust. The company I was laid off from made food packing equipment and use low grades of stainless for the parts that aren't required to be high quality food prep stainless. It rust if it's left uncleaned or sitting outside.

ATLRIDER

I just bought a bike with a full V&H, and yes the header pipe is rusted.  Am contemplating removing the rust through electrolysis and then painting with some Rustoleum BBQ paint.

Great but we are talking about two totally different thing. You are correlating something and that is like saying the wheels on my wheelbarrow are dry rotted after 2 months so that means the 200$ Pirellis on my CBR1000 are going to dry rot on it also after 2 months. If you have a V&H exhaust that is rusting that bad then it might not be a an actual V&H part. I had a suzuki Marauder 800 with a full V&H system on it. The bike was a 98 and the exhaust was 7 years old and besides swirl marks in the muffler it looked brand new. Could also be that some people just do not take care of their equipment as well as I do.
