So, I just ordered the 15t tooth sprocket from Sunstar, They sent me the one with no flange. Can I still use this? My bike is a 2004f.
Thanks,

You should be using the flanged sprocket. It can be used but I would not as it will move around too much, extra wear on the splines and chain. I think it changed in 97?
Common sense in not very common.

Seen someone else with this problem. He said it chattered as speed. I wonder if you could space it out so it's tight.

Possible.Just make sure to use a good high pressure grease like brake, bearing or chassis grease.Check every time you lube the chain.
PICS are GONE never TO return.

,

So here is the pic of the two sprockets, the one on the left is the stock 16t sprocket, the one on the right is a 14t sprocket. If you look at the stock sprocket you see it had a flange around the center of the sprocket, now the same flange is on the 14th sprocket it just has greater surface area. Both sprockets have the flange. Will this be fine?  What should I lube with grease Gi JO? Here is a pic of my machine, amd my twin turbo s80  pushing about 294hp 320 torque. The sticker with the DG=my first and last name.

The goodies on my 2004: Drop in air filter by UNI, jetted carbs thanks to member(PIZZA) by the way great seller. Jardine full exhaust system, jetted carbs, 15t sunstar sprocket, 41t rear sprocket/ HID w/ low and high beams kit(soon to be installed). and progressive springs,

The 89-93 GS500 had the front sprockets without the hub, from 94 on the front sprockets have had the hub.

I put a 15T Sprocket Specialist front sprocket on my 97 GS at 37k miles and 2 more of the same on it before I parked it 43K miles later with about 80k miles on the clock.  They were all the ones without the hub and there were no problems with them.  I didn't put a spacer behind them since Sprocket Specialists assured me they would align with the rear sprocket thru the chain and they did.  Everytime I pulled that cover the sprocket was sitting right next to snap ring with the extra space behind it.  I lubed the chains with the PJ-1 Blue chain lube I've always used.

I put a 16T one without the hub on my 02 GS with the 2nd chain and my rear wheel was missaligned for a while and when I removed that sprocket for the next chain it was a bit wobbly on the shaft from the chain missalignment.  The extra wear was in the bore and the spline shaft was as good as new.  I got an oem front sprocket for it since I run a 16T on the 02 and it fit like new.

Given the choice I'd run the one with the hub in the future but wouldn't hessitate to use one without the hub if that was all I had to use at the time.  Your bike, your choice.

But if you look at the pic they both have a hub. just the 14th has a larger hub, meaning it covers more of the sprocket.

If you look close you will see that there is a flange on both sprockets.

I definitely don't think you have anything to worry about.
