Hey i just had my carbs jetted for my slip on exhaust and lunchbox and im having some problems that maybe some of you could help me with. My problem is the bike starts and idles awesome and when i twist the throttle it revs really nice but when i take off under load from a stop it bogs really bad untill abou 3k then kicks in very nice (Doesnt matter what gear im in it still bogs under 3k) also it doesnt matter how much throttle i give it the thing just doesnt wanna go very well untill she hits 3k. Next it runs awesome from 3k to 5k then it kinda stumbles from 5k to about 8 or 9k. what could be causing this? It was jetted to 40/150/washer. Would another washer help any?

did  plug chop at 6k and the right plug was cream color but the left was pretty dark.

They could need synched look here: http://cgi.stanford.edu/~sanjayd/gs500/Maintenance/CarbSync

This may be useful to help read the plugs: http://www.dansmc.com/Spark_Plugs/Spark_Plugs_catalog.html
Only one plug being black causes me to think that something is wrong on the left.  Start by just checking that you're getting spark to the left.  Take the plug out, lay it on the block away from any wires and crank the engine and watch to see that it does spark.

If that checks out maybe check the float height on the left...a float set too high could let extra fuel flow into the cylinder and cause the rich condition.  http://www.bbburma.net/FloatHeight.htm  If it is too high you will have to set it to the recommended 14.6mm

Keep us updated :thumb:

you 'had' it jetted for lunch box and a pipe ?

if i were to pay someone to jet my bike, i'd expect it to be done right, or take it back and expect them to fix it.

or-

change/clean your plugs, and plug chop it again. check for spark on both sides. you may have an intermittant spark problem, but i doubt it.

sounds like they moofed your jetting, and/or float height. they certainly didn't complete the job. :(

OK guys, Justin's carb is the centerpiece of an up comming pictorial ...
His bike was run for a loooooong time with one cyl sucking air ... I have all the plastic spacers, the white guide the slides go into and the slides with a lot of wear ... the guides had holes in them ... I asked him at various points and swapped only what I had that I had sitting around that was free (cos I ahve 3-5 of them and never sold a single one so its being donated to a good cause) and what ever else he wanted to pay for - O rings etc.
Now I've been so swamped I am yet to upload the pics off my camera, so there is no pictorial yet ... I can take it back and work on it, however I am not running it on a bike, I do it with a bench mark setting. I'll work with him for the tuning, but just that in most cases people just have to fiddle with 1-2 things. Also I dunno if one cyl has much less compression from the other due to wear from an unfiltered air flow. In any case, Pics coming up soon.

Honest mistake buddha. Im sure with you swamped you were trying to get all the carbs done and out for everyone and it looked like you put 2 washers under the left carb which was running rich and one on the right which was good. I took the washer off and she runs like a dream.. No sputter at any rpms!!! Yeah fyi everyone when i bought the bike it was still running the factory air filter from 13 years ago!!! Could be a major reason why she was filled with dust lol. All is good now and im loving it!

I better do the pictorial ... faaaaast ...
